That is backwards. The BYC kicks in if his new first year salary EXCEEDS 11.2M. 12M makes him a Base Year Compensation player and that deal will not work.
yea I know...we had a long drawn out discussion about it. although if we only paid him 11.2 M and not 11.22 M he would technically not be BYC eligible
Richard Justice said on the air today (610) that the Rox are thinking HARD about Artest, but that his resume is really bad. Apparently he has a cruelty to animals charge which makes him a hard sale.
Wasn't his fault. He paid someone else to take care of the dog and it got really skinny. Some animal lover neighbor claimed abuse. Turns out the dog had a disease that was causing it to lose weight. Ron has since sold the dogs saying he didn't have time to be around all the time to watch over things.
That turned out to be his dog being sick and not neglect. If it was such an issue Les wouldn't allow the Rockets to even consider him. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/metro/4881293.html
Make the trade and keep him away from Clutch!! I'm really surprised at how legitimate this deal may be... it just feels so uneven... but I would love for it to work out. Out of all the players mentioned this offseason, I feel Artest would bring the most -- over Rashard, over Bibby, over James, etc. A real defensive stopper (love Battier, but stopper he is not), legitimate third scoring option, strong rebounder, and all under a coach that knows his game and managed to keep him out of trouble for their (short) time together. I love the potential.
who would buy a diseased dog? I've heard the excuse 'someone was suppose to be taking care of him' 100 times on that animal planets "cops" show.
I am really suprised that Richard Justice as a reporter would make such an ill-informed comment about Ron Artest. Shouldn't he have investigated the charges before saying such a thing or is he just repeating what the Rockets management is saying? If so then the Rockets management needs to get this clarified so they know that the animal cruelty charge was dismissed and baseless.
That plus the spousal abuse incident plus the meltdown in Detroit. Other than that, I can't see why anyone could have any reservations about this guy.
Right, that rap CD was...not good at all and I'm being kind. He actually made Dan Patrick's rapping sound good.
if he actually signs here I would slow that **** down and chop it and I bet it would sell like hotcakes in Houston.
I'll give him a pass on the health problems of the dog, but seriously, he's still guilty in my mind for cruety to the dog for naming it "Socks." Socks is a cat name, it's cruel to name a dog "Socks."
Let me clear up, RJ wasn't saying Ron Artest was at fault in the animal incident, just that the Rockets organization was concerned about his resume and is doing a lot of research. It really (surprisingly) didn't come across as him degrading Ron. However, the fact that Justice is now saying this is legit makes me think it isn't.
Oh do you really? Please explain where Jason Kidd got himself kicked out of the league for an entire year for charging into the stands and inciting a melee.
