Sorry to everyone for posting so much but thank you. That was a great post. If people did their research you would know that there is no way we can afford to have Ron at 8 mil, Magloire 5 mil, and Rashard 12 mil. All I am asking is just please know something about what you speak before posting.
If you are talking about MONEY ONLY then yes we can afford Lewis, Artest and Magloire. Artest for Sura, V-Span and Snyder - Read the 1st thread in this post. Lewis - Battier 5 mil + Howard 7 mil = 12 mil Magloire - Will go for the MLE no matter where he goes. His market value isn't that high right now Now for the real question would other teams take our players in exchange? That's a whole different story.
If Allen Iverson can get dealt for Andre Miller and filler, there's no doubt Houston's scrubs can land us Ron Artest.
With your theory, the 2007/2008 salaries would be Tmac - 19 million Yao - 13 million Rashard - 12 million Artest - 8 million Mcgloire - 5 million That is about 57 million dollars for those five players and they can not even be the starting five. Anyone who thinks that Tmac is a permanant PG, and that Mcgloire can play PF next to Yao is nuts. I think the cap is supposed to be at about 56 million or so for next year. So, unless Les is going to pay major luxury tax (very unlikely), or we sign our bench to negative dollars, this scenario can not work. Yes, trade wise we can make the salaries work, but we can not field a team with those players.
While I agree that its POSSIBLE we could get Artest...we're a long way from their being NO DOUBT that we can make that trade!
you know the old saying... "it takes money to make money" but then again with Tmac...and especially Yao... Les can just sit on his ass... field a half decent team... but still rake in the dollars... if we are win now...Luxury Tax should be the least of our worries...
I think at 12 million it constitutes a 20% raise for Rashard, hence making him a BYC player, and that deal not working. Not saying it's impossible to do your moves, but I don't think that trade works.
I believe the figure being thrown around is at least 11.2 million to avoid BYC for Rashard. so 12 million would fly.
Possible, yes. But - Zeke may well target Ron-Ron and offer to take back Kenny Thomas (who does not get along with SAR) and send back Rose/Frye/Jeffers or some such.
In which case $12 million would make him a BYC player. It is if the raise is greater than 20%. http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm For traded purposes, his salary is 50% of his first year salary, or his salary from last season, whichever is higher (probably his salary from last season). If $11.2 million does represent the 20% increase, that means that Rashard's salary last year was $9.33 million, which is greater than 50% of $12 million, in this case, so for trade purposes, Seattle would be able to take back only the $9.33 million +/- 125%... at least that's how I think it works.
i don't understand why people are worried about making the proposed artest deal. sure he's a nutcase but billy and snyder won't get any minutes behind luther and bonzi. we are giving up sura's contract and the 26th pick. if ron doesn't work out then the rockets can move his $8M ending contract to any team that wishes to clear some cap space.
you were right...he would become a BYC player. The 11.2 M number I stated earlier refers to the 20% raise Lewis would have to receive to become a BYC player...if he is resigned at that point or greater Seattle could only receive 125% of last years salary + 100,000 in return. Lewis' salary last year was 9.35 M, meaning for trading purposes they could only take back ~11.8 m. Houston on the other hand would have to take back whatever salary Seattle signs him to. (which would really be a mutual agreement between the teams) the contracts of Battier and Sura could combine to take back a salary up to 12.15 M
which is too much, right? at that high a level, whatver Rashard signs for he becomes BYC, so the most Seattle can take back is the $11.8 million. What's the least they could take back? It's just the $9.35 million, right? So, what package do we have for between $9.35 million and $11.8 million to offer Seattle. Is that the analysis? Shane + Sura = $9.72 million for next year (unless I'm looking at the wrong source), which fits the bill.
hehe looks like you answered your own question with the edit. yea I think any packed between the 9.35 and 11.8 you identified would work under the CBA. the 12.15 M max we could receive in return was only for the Battier + Sura package. obviously both teams could mix and match different salaries around the main two cogs of Lewis and Battier. regardless of whatever the case may be as far as the validity of this trade goes...the fact remains that the numbers do work
These are some great points which I have never considered. Putting it like that sure makes it sound alot better.
He'll be the MVP I agrre and there are no wuestions about that. Duncan is also good but Parker is amazing but I don't like him
