it seems good on paper but then with all of his baggage it could end up costing us.....what if Vspan turns out to be good and i'm not so sure about giving our 1st round pick up.....for a head case that is...
Spanoulis has shown us nothing other than driving ability. Even if he does turn out decent, which I think is a longshot, he's still got a long way to go on his shot. We complain about Rafer not being able to hit an open shot, just imagine Spanoulis playing more. He's a freakin second round pick, who at best will be a backup PG for 15 minutes off the bench a game (on a good team). I can't believe the fascination with him. If he were drafted this year, he would STILL be a second round pick. Adelman knows Artest, so the risk is a bit lower than it normally would be.
Artest for our scrubs? I would do that trade in heartbeat because it's a low risk for only 2 more years at 7 million dollar not bad. Then Trade Battier for Rashard Lewis and trade Juwan Howard for Mike James. Sign Jamaal Magloire to MLE. PG Alston SG Lewis SF McGrady PF Magloire C Yao Bench: Artest James Bonzi Hayes Head Mutombo Novak That is your 12 man team with a deep bench and depth at every position. I say let's make it happen.
So you would put Artest on the bench? And Rafer Alston would still be in 1st five, not Mike James? And I can't see Magloire in Rockets' uniform
We need a bench and maybe a good 6th man. I would do that at the start of the season and make Artest earn his spot if he deserves it. Alston is still a better starter but with Mike James on board Skip will see far less minutes and won't jack up all those bricks. Unless Mike Bibby comes along, Rafer will be the starter and I know that is very sad but you have to live with it. As for Jamaal Magloire I don't see him making a crazy contract over the summer. MLE is what he will get offered by teams and that is what he will earn.
A trade for Artest would have to coincide with a trade of Battier for a legit 4 man. Lewis is not a 4 man and never will be. Without Sura's expiring I don't think a Lewis trade is possible. Artest is known for his outstanding perimeter defense. The few times he played inside last year he complained about getting beat up too much. Artest is not a 4 either. A couple of trades that have been brought up are Battier for Wilcox or Battier for Jack and Outlaw. Wilcox is definitely a legit 4. He would bring athleticism, rebounding and a little scoring. I just don't really see him as an Adelman type player. The Jack/Outlaw trade is interesting. Jack would give us a legit young pg. I think he would be a nice improvement over Rafer. The question is if Outlaw can play the 4. McMillan liked to play him at the 4 last year, but could he do it every night? He has a nice mid-range J and a lot of athleticism. And he is very young as well. I think I would try to pick up Martell Webster as well in this deal. With Snyder gone in this deal and Bonzi an unknown, we wouldn't have any size in the backcourt coming off the bench. He is also very young and I think he has a bright future that could be stifled if he stays in Portland playing behind Roy his whole career.
Maybe Rafer finnaly won't play 45 minutes per game...That's stupid. But will Artest want to joing the Rockets if he'll be on the bench?
cool thing is, two of those guys on the bench were our starters last year...Rafer use to be the best guy at his position, likewise with Hayes...plus we are getting guys like Artest and Shard in your proposal....they are capable of 30+ minutes....are bench doesn't have to be super deep...Wells Rafer and Hayes is pretty solid and I would try to pick up Darko with the MLE to play back up 4 and 5
What's the chance of the Rockets get this deal done? In rumors: - Lakers offer Kwame Brown + #19 for Artest. - Heat offer James Posey(S&T) or Jason Williams + #20 pick - Rockets offer Sura (expire/1 mil guarantee) + VSpan (can be released) + Snyder + 26 pick. On paper, the Rockets offer is better (5 million immediate expiry contract) + 1 young player. Let's get it done. But I hope the Rockets will buy some picks to keep a couple of young prospects in the pipeline.
Yeah. I can't see the Kings being interested in those other offers because if they're looking to be rid of Artest then you would have to guess they're ready to rebuild. In that case, it's all about getting rid of salary - not taking more on.
Considering how absolutely awefull Steve has been the last couple of years would that be a blessing or a curse for the Rockets?
If he could join us with minimum, we could at least use him as a bench. Think about he would be as cheap as VSPAN.
He was a DNP for a ton of games last year and not just for health reasons. If he can't crack the Knicks rotation on a regular basis as bad as that team was imagine how much talent he may have lost. Steve always relied on his athleticism to score and regardless of his size he has always been very physical attacking the basket. I am worried that all of the collisions (and we saw a lot here in Houston) going to the basket against guys like Shaq and Duncan may have taken there toll on him. Steve has topped out for sure IMO and possibly lost a step or two which is scary since he is only 30. If he is bought out I would certainly bring him in and take a look at him but I don't know if I would be willing to offer more than the vet minimum to try out his services here.
This is what i think with this trade proposal. With Vspan never really utilized his talent under JVG, because of lack of playing time. Snyder on the other hand is such an excellent swing man but never get into the flow on the offensed , because he is not really the get to go guy on JVG's type of game. Artest on the other hand will give us a boost on the defense and on the board but can't keep away from off court problems. My assesment on this trade is mutual in a way but i would rather give V-spartan and Snyder another year. And on Artest, to risky to be part of this head freak!
ESPN: http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blo...spn/blog/index?entryID=2897870&name=ford_chad "• One possible destination for Ron Artest this summer? Houston, to be reunited with his former coach Rick Adelman. I'm told the Rockets have been quietly putting out feelers about Artest, and the price might be right. I hear it would cost the Rockets Bob Sura (he has only $1 million in salary protection next year), Kirk Snyder, Vasilis Spanoulis and this year's first-round draft pick."
