I'm just confused as to how we would walk away, as Amico suggests, with 4 first rounders if we were to consummate a deal for the Cavs pick
I think you're reading the situation wrong here. The Wizards want Beal. He compliments their roster perfectly. The Bobcats want Robinson, but would prefer to trade down and pick up additional assets on the way. The Wizards are threatening to either take Robinson at #3 or trade the #3 to anybody who likes Robinson, if and only if the Bobcats trade down and another team (like the Cavs) selects Beal #2. Thought about something similar. I like it. Martin is a good fit next to Johnson and the Hawks could use some cheap players to not constantly be near the luxury tax. Morris is cheap, as is whatever first rounder we would send them. They might be able to get a better return for Smith, but Johnson is huge for a SG and could easily play SF. In fact IIRC there seems to be some evidence that he's more effective playing SF.
Joe Johnson split his time between the 2 and 3 pretty evenly, depending on which teammates he plays with. ATL spent a lot of time with, for example, a Teague/Hinrich backcourt. They can use KMart especially since Green, McGrady and Hinrich are all free agents. http://www.82games.com/1112/11ATL6.HTM#bypos As whether they'll get a better offers, maybe Martin, Morris and a pick isn't enough, but there are plenty of ways to configure this: what if the Rockets gave them a top 10 pick or add in Sergio Llull or even Motienjunas?
True. One of my biggest gripes about them is that they have 3 guys (Joe Johnson, Josh Smith & Al Horford) all playing out of position.
When teams bring in every player within a draft range for a workout, we say they are doing their research, so they know everything out there and are prepared for any draft board scenario. When Morey talks to every GM within a draft range, he is doing the same thing (research/info gathering), wrt trade scenarios on or before Draft Day. Doesn't necessarily mean something fell through or something became more enticing than another. Anything can happen, so prepare for it. All that said: I think Morey leaked this to strike fear in the #5-8 spots. I don't see Cavs trading this pick at all, since their best player is a rookie. If we were Cavs fans, we would want to use that pick, right?
With Danny Ferry in charge now, it won't be as easy to get over on them as it was when Sund was in charge. But everyone is available on their roster, according to rumors.
My best friends older brothers best friend who used to be a scout in the NBA said he doesn't want to go to Brooklyn because he doesn't want to live up the the legacy of the great Brook Lopez
My god.... How did I not notice that?? I hope we get MKG. I love his playstyle. Get him, and you could trade Parsons for a lot!
i just don't think we are good enough to forgo drafting the most talented players because we have a solid guy on our roster at that position. After Davis and Beal, MKG is the best player in this draft. As a rebuilding team, i think we need to add talent first, and worry about positions later. but no ...MKG cannot play shooting guard.
I want brad beal. More than any player we have any semi realistic shot of getting in this draft. Please Morey, Beal.
Dude we become the Heat stoppers if MKG plays SG to stop Wade and Parsons is used to slow down LeBron. Btw, those players Doc listed... Drummond, Ross, and those two others.. maybe theese guys are who the Cavs covet?
This means 1 of 2 things to me: 1) The Rockets didn't reach an agreement with the Sacramento and possibly the Raptors. 2) The Rockets are exploring other options and have a deal on the table.
