The NFL is a completely different league. It's probably the league most driven by collective team talent and least driven by star power. The NBA is on the opposite end of the spectrum. There have been VERY few trades in the NBA where the team that got the better star got the worst end of the deal.
I'm sure that teams will make offers for Yao, but what types of offers? That's what I'm interested in. I think that his trade values have dropped this year. This time a year ago we probably could have netted a borderline superstar (like a TMac) for Ming alone. Now I'm not sure about that any more. Yao hasn't progressed much since the end of his rookie season, and that is really hurting his trade values. We're not putting Yao on the trading block. However, if the right deal comes along that would help the team, of course you'd do it..
this thread should be locked and thrown in a time capsule not to be opened until 2012...the year the max contract YAO will receive this summer from the Rocks will expire......and he'll be old and washed up by then....... myfellow bbs'ers yao is gonna receive a max contract no matter if he deserves it or not this summer case closed, next subject Van Gundy will get canned before they give up on the Tracy/YAO project......this is there first season together....does anyone really think they are gonna give these guys one season and then can the whole project all together????????? Come on people....we are all smarter than that A real question to ask is whether or not we can weasel Phil out of retirement before the Knicks snatch him up.........Houston is not the big market he was lookin for but he would work wonders and championship for years with these guys.......
I like this one - Bosh is a real up-and-comer! I'd take Gooden and Ilgauskus plus a #1 (or two 1's) - that'd really strengthen our frontcourt!!!
It's always easier to say than to do. How close is T-Mac alone to a championship? Not even close, you have last year's Magic as example. Never mind that he came here to join a big man in Yao, let's just look at it realistically. You want T-Mac to win titles for Houston, since him alone is far away, you need to get a "borderline superstar" back, a couple of good players are just not enough to win it all. As you said, Yao's trade value is going down, he just can't get you a borderline superstar, especially you want to ship out some bad contracts as well. Now, realistically, why don't we just sit on our hands and help Yao to develop further, rather than giving him up and not resulting anything? In trade, whenever a big name is involved, you have to expect something in equal value, you can't just expect to rip others off. If Yao plays better, his trade value increases to a point, that he can get you a borderline superstar, now, at that moment, why would you want to trade him again?
well does Yao deserve the max? who really does? if you look at market values then yes he does. If Kmart / Boozer / Okur / BigZ / TMurphy / AFoyle can get max or near max deals so does our big man (Yao) 18 / 9 isnt something you shake your head at. Plus he commands a double team and if we would knock down our shots (3pt) it would free Yao up more in the middle. J
Now Cleveland is set for multiple championships with Yao & Lebron. How can the Rockets beat out these two guys, may I ask?
as a raptors fan.. I'm willing to give up my whole team for Yao. Some of you guys really don't know what you have until you lose it. It's very very difficult to find a big man who can give you 20/10, let alone a center who gives you that and commands double/trouble teams. If he ups his minutes to about 36-37 minutes, he's giving you Duncan like numbers. Guys.. centers like Brad Miller almost never gets double teamed and he still doesn't put up the numbers that Yao does. Teams create a game plan around how to stop Yao each time they play the Rockets. You also notice how many open shots the parimeter players on your team get with Yao in there? They just need to hit them. That makes all the difference.
nice read . we Rox fans do take Yao for granted sometimes. I might still jump on the trade of Yao for Bosh + Alston + #1 pick though
hahahaha... it's the truth. If he was available, I'd say the rockets would be able to get almost any player they want, outside of a few of course.
What trade would u do? Philly..The Answer A. Iguodala Damblet Celtics. Paul Peirce Al Jeff and a pick Pacers. Ron Artest, Tinsley, Pick? Or another player. Mempis. Gausol, Swift, Miller? Hornets.
