Thanks you Easy. I have noticed that there are a lot of unintelligent contributors on this forum. There is a lack of critical thinking around here. It is good to speak with some measure of emotion but avoid getting carried away - think things through or at least try.

Being considered OVERRATED doesn't mean you are bad but that you are not cracked up to what people or press say you are. Some OVERRATED athletes still make the HALL OF FAME (e.g. Scotty Pippen) - but that does not change the fact that they are not as good as advertized.

Converselly, declaring one as UNDERRATED does not make that person VERY VERY GOOD but rather a little better than advertised. For example Cutino Mobley is UNDERRATED but he is arguably NOT BETTER than Francis. Get my drift?

Steve Francis is OVERRATED - it is not an opinion to get angry about but one that if you break down carefully you will see reason in the opinion. IMO, his bane is his piss poor defense and his low general basketball IQ. He is not alone. There are very many players in the NBA that are OVERRATED.

Anyway it is just an opinion so don't get too worked up.

i won't get worked up, but i really doubt, save for perhaps 1% of this board, that anyone here knows anything about basketball. your all spectators, and cannot possibly judge steve's "basketball IQ" because you have none. period.

saying that, i don't think steves overrated. i think he will possibly average 22 6 6 for his career when its all said and done. and i hate to break it to you, but the offense will be steve/yao with cat/mo as the 3rd/4th. jvg has said repeatedly that steve and yao are the stars, and his job is to get his star's the best possible shot. the methods may change, but the results will be the same. the only real drastic change will be defense. how do i know? jvg has said all this before.

most overrated? bibby without a doubt.
    underrated? jason terry

yeah except we were 26-31 with him and 2-23 without him. that is about as massive a difference as you could possibly find. steve never played with mo t and rice played almost exactly the same proportion of games with and without steve as the rest of the team. so essentially w/o steve we would've crushed the record for fewest wins ever (6.6 win pace) and with him we were about .450. and if you wanna throw in last year whose win was over a terrible memphis team (that seemed to play less defense than steve himself) then we've got 68-70 vs 3-23. either way steve has been shown to be of extreme importance to this team.

as for how mike bibby is not more overrated than francis, i guess that's a mystery that can only be explained by tex.

I guess the biggest "spectator" or them all, Rudy T, could not judge Steve's lack of "basketball IQ" either. I think that you will find that all of the people on this board that believe that Francis is a TERRIBLE point guard understand the game of basketball and the role a PG has within it.

    Sure Steve is super athletic.
    Sure he can score.
Sure he can take his man off the dribble.
    Sure he can rebound.

    but......

    He is lacking court vision.
    He makes ill-advised passes.
    He makes ill-advised court decisions.
He does not run an efficient offense.
He does not score within the flow of the offense.

I apologize if this has already been said (and knowing you guys it may have already been said better even) but I didn't read over the content of the thread. I just read the first post containing Chad Ford's article.

My problem with what he is saying about Steve Francis is this:

Tony Parker is underrated even though his numbers aren't great because he does what his coach asks of him, but Steve Francis is over-rated why? Because Chad Ford expects his numbers will drop this year because he is expected to do what his coach asks of him. That makes sense.

Also at power forward, this guy probably said the same thing about Shareef Abdur Raheem back in the day that he's saying about Elton Brand now. I agree Elton Brand is a better tough, post power forward, but it's my humble opinion that neither of these guys are ever going to lead their team to a championship. They're meant to be second options or at the very least sort of dual first options with another player of equal talent. I really think both players would be better off as second options. MAYBE Elton Brand could win a championship as the first option on one of those teams where every position is solid as hell like the Celtics or Lakers of the 80's. That's about it.

WTF! FRANCIS IS NOT OVERRATED! He doesn't get enough respect!

Parker?!? People are talking about how great Parker is and how young he is all day. That is overrated!

I don't see how he is overrated. Nobody ever talks about him....Parker Parker Parker. Bibby Bibby Bibby...I hear that all these names all the time.

If this is overrated, Kidd is overrated! He can't even shoot! And people are loving him!

Stupid! FLOOD HIM! Just kidding. :)

This cements it for me...Chad Ford has no idea what he's talking about. And I'm not even talking about his naming Francis the most over-rated PG. Tony Parker underrated?! I Have never heard anyone do anything but totally jock him.

Ford expects Francis numbers to drop in ppg but increase in assist because of JVG.

It is possible that individual stats may drop, but team improvement is achieved. That's what we want.

It's called, making your teammates better.

On second thought, Bibby's not the most overrated PG. Lebron is.

No disrespect to SF, but has he led his team to the NBA Finals? Time will tell.
