I'm not following you. posted by Luis Alvarez: I got this from nbadraft. net Houston receives a Chicago first round pick in 2004, (top 20 protected) or 2 future Chicago second-round picks in 2005 and 2006. If the pick is protected in '04, the second rounders will be exercised instead. (Bryce Drew trade 092800). That's what we sent to Utah... along with our '04 first rounder... as far as picks go. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. We got a large trade exception in return that, assuming we use it, will be very valuable this summer making moves. I'm still shaking my head about the trade, but it's not over yet. If the exception is used properly, we may end up singing it's praises. (this has been discussed here a zillion times, so if I'm off base, I feel pretty demented. I'm partially demented anyway, so what tha hell)
David Aldridge's most recent chat. So how about..... ¥ Francis for Ray Allen (perhaps in a 3 team deal) ¥ Cato for Eric Snow Viola....new backcourt: Eric Snow and Ray Allen! Then use the MLE / TE+player to add a PF & backup PG to the roster.
regardless if we make the playoffs or not, this team needs a change. Have u seen our record aganist the western confernce? And FRANCIS cant run the point, or shot when yao is doubled team. So logically, it would be good to trade him for a real pg who can knock down the open jumper.
Because Snow has an OK game and a bad, bad long term contract. To take Snow Dalembaert better be heading to H-Town, too.
i think steve for billups & prince + fillers is the best trade we could make. both of them are gret 3pt shooters, can score, and prince is a great defender. after that i see cato being moved to the east as well for a pg. maybe snow as DA was quoted, but i can only hope. and i see the TE being used to fill our 4 spot. possibly a sign and trade for kurt thomas. with the knicks making room for sheed. our new cotender roster: yao-spoon thomas-moT prince-jj cat- ag billups-snow
heydude, we should go for sheed, but the chances of us getting him are slim since he already said he wants to sign with the knicks even if it means he only gets the MLE. sheet would be 10X better, he is a great talent all around, but i was just trying to be more realistic with my hopes/predictions.
The Knicks are extending Kurt Thomas for 4 more years, and Isaiah loves KT. Would Wallace be ok with reduced pay AND reduced minutes? We can offer the 6.9M trade exception. Here are Detroit's options: let Rasheed go to New York and turn them into the best team in the East, or send him West and collect some future considerations, maybe some cash, maybe even Pike? Can we send Pike, the 6.9M exception and some future considerations to Detroit for a re-signed Wallace? That would be great for everyone IMO, and very plausible if Wallace doesn't want to stay with Detroit.
Allen, Brand, etc... these guys are are older than Yao by at least 4 yrs. If were gonna get anything for SF than they should compliment Yao(22yrs) and fall within the same age bracket. Onl Trade that makes sense for both parties involved is SF to Chicago for Hinrich and theyre #1 Pick. If it falls in the top three then we have a shot at getting a Omeka. Hinrich, Omeka, and YAo are the same age and would grow together as a team. You ask why would Chicago give up a promising young gaurd and a #1? 1st: Kirk is not a three time allstar. 2nd CHicago desperatley needs someone who can sell tickets and help them make a push into the playoffs next year. 3rd: They have Curry and Chandler so they don't need another power foward or youngster who need time to develop. 4th: Well... its chicage. the same organization who traded Brand for Chandler. If chacage wants something more, so long as its not Yao, I can part with anyone on this team. In return we get an up and coming point guard and a Hometown Stud who will be an upgrade at PF. Then we can go out and get a SF with the trade excemption(Turkuglu) and we gots ourselves a nice Yao orientated nucleus. c:Yao pf: Omeka sf: Turkuglu sg: Jackson pg: Hinrich reserves: cato, MoT, Pike, Boki, and Weatherspoon. This team looks promising. The Yao, Hinrich, Omeka combo could grow into a Malone, Stockton, Bill Walton combo. Thats sick!!!
Yeah, age is a consideration, and I wouldn't want a guy older than 27, but the advantage of getting an Elton Brand is that we know what we're getting in return. The Rockets have been burned too many times by the word prospect..... I think SF has pretty high value. He's a nice guy (just stupid sometimes), and he's a 3 time all star. He plays a flashy game, which most fans love to watch, and he's only 27. The problem is that he needs a running and slashing offense, and a YM+JVG team takes away his best game, so I don't think other general managers will be too concerned with his bad numbers this year. If CD can't find a way to trade SF for a super star in return then LA should fire him for someone who can. Of all the trades we talk about, only EB or RA offer sure things, and do we really need any more suprises on this team. Raven
The problem is that he needs a running and slashing offense, and a YM+JVG team takes away his best game, so I don't think other general managers will be too concerned with his bad numbers this year. Why does Francis need a running offense? He can't lead a break and he doesn't finish well on a break. How is Van Gundy taking away Francis game? He wants the team to run. It's Francis that walks the ball up the court or picks up his dribble when he gets the least amount of pressure. JVG has nothing to do with the fact that teams can play zone and prevent Francis from penetrating. If Van Gundy is somehow causing Francis to shoot below 40%, then we should get JVG to use his "powers" to affect the opponent's shooters instead. Why would you expect a super star in return for Francis? Francis is not a super star, so who's going to give one up for him?
I was going to let this slide but after reading your post twice I found it a bit offensive. I never claimed to be an insider. I just started a new job so count me in for $50. Francis is gone before the first tip-off of the regular 2004-05 season.
No one's a bigger critic of SF than I am (I go so far as to say he killed YM's chances for ROY), but to suggest he's not a superstar is just silly. SF is a 3 time all star, and well liked by fans all across the country (except maybe in Canada). He's capable of scoring 40 points any time he steps on the court, and for a young player he has a pretty clean record, as far as attitude, and off the court behavior (only one incident). But like most star guards in the league, he wants to be THE MAN, and there are teams out there who would love a chance to let him be exactly that. It's CD's job to find those teams, and secure a stud player in return. The only way the Clippers don't jump at SF for EB is if they get KB, or if they think they can squeeze more from the desperate Rockets. Raven
There are only a handful of superstars in the league. Shaq, Kobe, Duncan and Garnett are superstars. Francis is not in their class. He's been voted in as an all-star 3 times. Do you really think that he deserved to be there this year? Being popular doesn't make you a superstar, you earn that on the court. Superstars at least get their teams to the playoffs once in four years. Interesting that you think he's capable of scoring 40 anytime he steps on the court. In the 351 games that he's played for the Rockets, he's scored over 40 points exactly one time (last year vs. the Lakers). One out of 351 (0.28%) isn't too convincing an argument. That's even worse than being proud of shooting 40%. Brand is a 20/11 guy that is top 10 in the league in both FG% and shot blocking. Explain to me why the Clippers, or any NBA GM, would trade Brand for Francis? NBA teams value big men over smaller guys, especially point guards. Most of the best of today's point guards have been traded (Kidd, Nash, Marbury, Cassell), did any of them fetch a star big man in return? If the Clippers would give up Brand for Francis that deal would have already been made.
