Thanks Chopped greatly appreciated. It made me feel good to hear that Alston has been working in the offseason and to hear T-Mac looking forward to adding pieces so we can have a great season.

Not as fast as it should be - are you kidding? Rafer and Mike James are already two of the fastest point guards in the league (adding JLIII would easily give us the fastest backcourt in the NBA), T-Mac is no slouch, and Battier will easily be faster than most 4s he matches up with. Even Yao has picked up a step or two lately. That's a pretty darn good small lineup if you asked me.

It looks more and more likely MJ is coming back to Houston. His family, no tax= more money, Alston said MJ play at 2, CD very confident and MJ said the final decision depended on his wife who is pregnant in Houston. What more to say? Let make a move on the next free agent.

Have to disagree about Rafer and MJ, their speed is no better than middle of the pack among NBA guards. JL3 is a burner. But to counter matchup problems when your guards are 6'2" and your PF is 6'8", the more speed the better. No I don't consider this lineup particularly fast or athletic.

The team that is considered the fastest and most athletic in the league is run by a slow non-athletic point guard. Rafer is every bit as fast and athletic as Nash. Now, look at the 2 guard. You put Mike James at the 2 against Raja Bell and you have a quickness advantage in favor of the Rockets. Athleticism, they are about the same, James may even have the edge there. Obviously, Phoenix has a SMALL size advantage at the 2. Now, on to the 3. McGrady vs. Marion. Size about even. Quickness about even. We could probably give Marion an athletic advantage just because of injuries but not by much. PF-Amare vs. Battier (if indeed Amare is playing the 4). Athleticism-Amare, Size-Amare, Quickness-Even. Center-Size, athleticism, and quickness all favor Yao as long as Amare isn't there. Amare can only play one position at a time.

    Now go to Dallas
If Dallas goes with Griffin in the starting lineup, we can mix and match as well. Griffin gets his offense off of garbage. We could possibly go with Bogans and James/Rafer as our starters.....if we are seeking to match up with Dallas. Or we could go with Rafer and James and see if we can force Dallas to match up with us. When you move to the front line, we win. McGrady, Battier, and Yao are better than Dirk, Howard, and whoever else they throw out there. And Battier is going to be a better defender on Dirk than anybody we had this last year.

It's not about being "small" or "big". It's about having a rotation of 8 solid players that you can mix and match to give you advantages on the floor. It's about the "versatility" of the pieces surrounding Yao and McGrady. If we use the TE to acquire James and then we are able to get a guy like Jared Jeffries with the MLE, or we are able to acquire another top 8 rotational player to go along with what we already have, we would be in a position to match up with the top teams very well and we would be in a position to dictate mismatches. And we aren't even talking about Luther and Novak. We are adding quickness and shooting to this team. Our perimeter defense will be much better and our shooting will be much better with the additions of Battier, James, and whoever else we get. We're gonna be tough to deal with as long as Yao and McGrady stay healthy.
