There is no way Tracy can run a sub-5 second 40 -- Larry Fitz only runs a 4.63.

    I bet Tracy runs about a 5.2 - 40 -- nothing bad about that for a guy 6' 8"+

Are you a total idiot? You can't compare 100 times and 40 times. There's an acceleration time that has to be factored in the shorter race.

The top elite wide receivers in the NFL run 4.2ish 40s. McGrady at 6'8" running a 4.7 is not bad. A 5.1 on the other hand sucks pretty hard.

I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone run a sub 4 40, so no McGrady shouldn't be running 4.0.

    2 things...

    - 4.5 or less is damn fast, with the top being somewhere around 4.2...most times are hardly official.

    - Running 40 yards requires you to accelerate for probably about 40% of the distance and at top speed for 60% of the distance. During a 100 meter run you are likely at top speed for more than 80%, meaning you can't make a linear connection.

I remember reading an article when he was in Orlando and it said that he could run a 4.37 40 yd dash back then

There was a lot of emphasis in the interviews from both T-Mac and Wayne Hill on the "system" -- his offseason regimen. I know that T-Mac has always had some kind of exotic combination of diet elements (something about a dozen hard boiled eggs every morning etc.) and specific workout regimens that he goes through to get into basketball shape. It's easy to see what Dwayne Wade was saying about how hard it is to get back on the court after going through two surgeries at the same time. The only thing that surprises me is that it took such a relatively short time (10 days) to get himself back ... that must mean either he really worked very hard, or the system is really that effective, or both.

Why do you guys care about how fast he can run? It's not like he's going to be sprinting up and down the court as fast as he possibly can.

Unless you are just totally over McGrady, this is encouraging news. He's the best player on the team and if he is right mentally and physically, the Rockets are going to be tough to stop.

Props to you for owning up to the silliness of that post.

Even I thought the piling on was already getting a bit much after just one page.

What are you talking about? 4.69 for 40 yards translates to something around 11 seconds.

The best running backs run 4.3. Considering that Tmac is 6'8" and it takes longer to get off the block, it's pretty decent.

I told you guys they would start the PR to build him back up with the fans - so obvious.

Now, that being said......he looks good, and if he is mentally ready, and really OVER the surgery and has trust in his knee.

Then by all means....get his butt back on the court and let him start building the trust of his teamates as well.

This year is NOT over.....CURAHEEEEE !!!
