I think you will find a lot of posters here thought they should have taken a hard line a long time ago. Either way, it is what it is.....and I am hopeful he comes back ready to go, and ready to go HARD.... DD
i didn't think for a second that jvg's approach was the best one way back. at this point, i think the team and we fans need to put what has happened this year behind us. all hinges on mcgrady, though. if he comes back strong and plays team ball, then we can still contend and all is not lost. if not... oh well.
Agreed, but they didn't even force his hand ... it seems clear that this last decision was also initiated by McGrady (and Hill). It just happened to be the right one, even if a little late. I said this in one of my previous posts: he should have done what Deron Williams and Manu Ginobili did and just stayed out until he was ready/had gone through his required training etc. We wouldn't be where we are today if that had happened. I understand his rationale for wanting to "get the team off to a good start", but it was still the wrong thing to do. He also made the wrong decision when he succumbed to fan pressure and criticism by coming back too early from the three week rehab, and then subsequently failed to recognize that old adage that says "when you're in a hole, the first thing to do is to stop digging". The more he went out and embarrassed himself, the worse the situation got.
I agree with you. Also, his surgery did not go smoothly. He had a MRI before the season started and it showed that he still had arthritis and will have to undergo another surgery this off season. I don't understand why other posters on here are trying to compare their own experience w/ his.
he's definitely looking like he has slimmed down... if time off is what he needs.. let's keep him off a little while longer
If I haven't worked out in a long time, the first couple weeks I can move from low weights to higher weights pretty fast. 115 to 185 seems a bit much though. But, if he can do 185 now for real and run a 4.6 forty, then all the better for us. I say shut this down till after the all-star game and get it back for real.
Dude should STFU until he makes it past the first round of the playoffs and has contributed to that as part of the team philosophy. Until then, just don't give any interviews. At all.
hey lets give him 1 FINAL CHANCE. If he messes up then we trade him! this coming from a person who bood t-mac
Ibet this does have something to do with von wafer's play. he dosent want to get shown up by a one time scrubb turning into everyones new fav player.
My two cents: 1. Bench press means nothing in basketball 2. If Tmac has made this much progress this fast then he wasn't even trying when he left. Nobody gets in shape that fast. 3. He should take another week or two longer and get in even better shape 4. Bring him off the bench until he proves that the first unit is better with him than without him.
I disagree Dave. If I can get in shape in a week. I pretty sure an nba millionaire with top notch athletic training and already athletically gifted player can get in shape in 10 days.
wtf? upper body strength is key to any player who wants to finish around the basket... from slasher to dominant big man.
I guess it depends how out of shape you are to begin with and how "in shape" you want to get. I don't buy for a second that McGrady can make that much progress in less than two weeks. I'll be glad if he comes back and looks like anything resembling the old Tmac but I will also believe he greatly exaggerated how much pain he was in to begin with.
this is more for the mental aspect than the physical. does he have the confidence in his knee to cut, move...
There is a difference between functional strength and bench press. I'm not saying strength training is not beneficial but I don't think a lot of gym exercises translate to the basketball court like people think they do. Bench press is one of them. Have you ever bench pressed the ball into the basket or bench pressed the defender while finishing at the rim? I knew a guy who weighed 240lb, could not bench press 200lb but could lift a full size couch over his head. His bench press sucked but his functional strength was freakish.
good point. I guess I was more focusing on his real conditioning but you're right. It's about his confidence in his knee.
his body wasn't completely out of shape. i mean, he played games of 40+ mins and didn't look fatigue physically. but he sure could have lost some lbs and he did. he looks leaner and stronger and appear to regain the confidence in his body. that's all it is with tracy. if he has confidence in his body (whether it's the back or knee), he'll do the things he normally does.
