Ummmmmmmmmmmmm, How about a nation of 1.3 billion people who are actually helping to pay the 500 and the 1 or 2 complaining? Yao holds the cards here. He just won't play them. His objective should be to get 6 offensive fouls in a game. And then when he got 6 in a game. His objective should be to get another 6 offensive fouls in the next game. Do you think 1.3 billion people would get upset about that enough to complain to the league?
Officials having problems with big men are not Yao's problem nor Shaq's. It pretty much in existence since day one with many hall of famers. The problem we are seeing today is that there are offical rules created to limit big men's game. the 3 sec call and no hand checks which filter the penetrator into the centers to draw fouls. In the past specially with Shaq in his prime, it has always been eye for an eye. opponent flopping or hard checking would met with Shaq's punishment on the other end. often time it makes the defence hard to play defense or risk injury with Shaq. Yao on the other hand has taken that away for his opponent. he doesn't punish them. Sure Yao may take one or two more fouls, but this will set the tone and i bet you the opponent would think twice before making any contacts. bottomline, Yao needs to play with more aggressive and take some body with him down the rim.
Here's the thing. How much Asian fans support Yao is overrated to an extent. Yao's merchandise isn't the #1 seller over there. A lot of them would pick Kobe, lebron, nash, etc. over Yao as their favorite player. The reason Yao gets so many all star votes, well pretty much all of their votes, is because he plays the center position, in which he has no real superstar competition, other than shaq, who's not that great anymore. If yao was competing for an all star spot versus Kobe, he wouldn't win it. So it's not as simple as all of them backing up Yao and boycotting the league or sumn.
. An eye for an eye would mean shaq gets to attack on one end and then gets attacked on the other end as well. It doesn't mean they flop on one end and he attacks them on the other end. This specific issue of flopping wasn't around at this level in years past. Not even close. Players didn't do it this often and refs sure as hell didn't call it this often. The 3 second call has been around for a long time. It's not the problem. Neither is hand checking, that affects perimeter players on defense. This issue is with big men on offense. And the issue with penetrators drawing fouls on big men is that they jump into them, that would happen with or without hand checking because penetrators will eventually get by the defender, maybe not as often, but it won't stop them from jumping into a center the times they do get by.
It'll never happen and is probably not the right thing, but once after a series of bad flop calls against Yao, I like him to say to the Ref,"You want to see a charge?" Then the next offensive possession just take the ball and steamroll the defender and say '"that's what it looks like when I charge."
Yao clearly doesn't have the dominance of Shaq. Nevertheless, I would submit that Yao is treated much more poorly. Shaq used to (and still occasionally does) lower his shoulder and bulldoze his way to the rim. He gave as good as he got. Sometimes, the defender flopped and sometimes he was steamrolled. Yao simply doesn't steamroll anyone, yet he picks up more offensive fouls than Shaq. Yao is much more poorly officiated than Shaq. You can basically beat up Yao and not get called. That's why people should just start punching him and elbowing him; after all, they won't get called.
I dont see DH has any same kind of problem, even he fouls yao,its Yao's O foul and you want him to be more aggressive, tell me how?
100% agree with that "You can basically beat up Yao and not get called",that why I keep saying ---finally,it will cost us game.
Why shouldn't Yao leave the NBA? If your boss isn't treating you right, you can quit, no? Yao should just leave the NBA ... they don't treat him equally; they treat him much much worse. He could just retire or play in another league and get paid very well.
Well, it is sort of like the movie Matrix. David Stern is the architect, referees are the agents, we are in the matrix, including the players, and we are all thinking: this is really sport, but it is just an illusion, indeed it is "sport like business show", enforced/administrated by referees (agents), and the really one that controls everything is Stern. Yao is one of the guy live in Zion. Who is the "one"?
What he said is sort of true. But for Shaq, when he dominated, he is allowed a lot shoulder bumping initiated by him. His defenders often flop, but a lot of times he just simply knocked you out of his way or knocked you down with his shoulder and won't be called a foul. If Yao is even doing a quarter of this today, it would be a foul. Actually even if Shaq does the same thing today himself, it is most likely to be a foul as well.
