Nba refs do remind me of wwf refs. I'm just waiting for a player defending yao to hit him across the body with a folding chair, while the refs missit because they were arguing with each other.
He's already made his mark here. Shaq can just retire. Yao will never make his mark here. Furthermore, although Shaq was hard to officiate in his prime, he initiated heavy contact far more often than Yao and got away with it a lot. Yao can't initiate any contact; for some reason, the NBA wants Yao to be a complete wimp.
shaq has done fine and won 4 rings and still dominate at the age of 37. he has repeatedly said he's been treated unfairly since '92
The most unstoppable player in the League? LeBron James, but he gets PLENTY of calls his way. So it's not about being the minority, it's about marketability. Big men like Yao and Shaq are not as marketable as LBJ, Wade or Kobe, well, at least in the United States. But seriously, if Stern wants to expand the Chinese market (and he'd be an idiot not to consider it a priority), then he should at least allow Yao to be treated FAIRLY, never mind favorable treatment.
This is the reply from NBA after my complaining as a fan from China: Dear Ha**d, Thank you for contacting the National Basketball Association with your concerns regarding officiating. The NBA’s highest priority is to ensure that every game is determined on its merits, thus providing its fans with an honest and truly competitive league. The NBA has a covenant with its fans. To preserve their trust, we make every effort possible to ensure that league processes and procedures are as thorough and transparent as possible. We take seriously the actions of our officials. They are the most measured and metricized group of employees in the world. Our officials are held strictly accountable for their actions and we track every call they make to continually develop their abilities, with the understanding that their mistakes only make them human. Thank you again for your concern. We appreciate your feedback regarding this issue. Sincerely, NBA Fan Relations
Shaq never ask for doubles on Yao. He always guarded him one on one. Now on he other hand, Yao will need help as nobody still can't guard Shaq.
I don't agree with that assumption bc you can say the same about all the top players. I think David Stern has his own agenda for officiating big men to promote a different style of play.
Why would Yao want to leave the NBA? So he can go play with the scrubs in China and get officiated even worse over there? Yao isn't some puss that would just give up because he isn't getting calls. Maybe a weak minded person would, but not Yao.
Is it just me, or is Shaq giving Yao advice on the flopping? That is what I took out of it when he said they are not going to protect 2 players when they have 500 to look after. Yao needs to feed off those comments and realize that he is a dominating center in this league and not get so frustrated when players flop a lot against him. Shaq doesn't let flopping get under his skin the same as Yao does. Shaq takes it with stride and continues playing his game. Yao should be doing the same.
This is one of the stupidest things I've seen recently. You think Yao worked his whole life just so he could quit? What will he do next? Play in a second rate league against inferior competition that only 5 people watch? You think he'd be happy w/ that? And what will his leaving accomplish? The NBA isn't going to collapse because one person leaves. Back to the video: I think Shaq feels a like Yao is a little bit of a kindered spirit, but I think this is ultimately motivated by the Dwight Howard drama. The 500:2 quote was interesting though. There's a world of difference about how physical you can get depending on if you're 6 feet or 7 feet tall.
I post this on another thread, maybe I should post here... It's interesting Shaq's comments about the "500 player rule"... Weren't we in the same situation before Abraham Lincoln? I don't know the ratio at the time, maybe not 500 to 2 like the NBA, but maybe 20 white vs 1 black?.. So, why did Lincoln help the 1 Black and go against the 20 White? Also, why are we celebrating Martin Luther King's day again?...
just wanted to point out that it wasn't his perspective, he says he was once told that, which makes it more interesting because that means it's true, probably came from an inside source, maybe even a ref.
You can't say the same for all players. He's not talking about guys who are unstoppable based n skills like Kobe, or lebron. He's refering to guys who are bigger than everyone else. If they let Yao and Shaq run over everyone, then every opponent (500+) will complain they're getting pushed around or ran over. So they rather limit those two guys and keep everyone else content.
I have heard on different occasions people from Mainland China quoting one of Yao Ming's motto: "If you work hard, you are not guranteed you'll succeed, but if you don't try, you are bound to fail." I think Yao would stay and continue to work hard to overcome the flopping problem. Best of luck to him.
