its only a matter of time. once real games are trying to be won, you'll see francis' x-factor, his heart.

i know he's a contentious character amongst rockets' fandom, but have a little faith, at the very least for the good of the team. francis jelling only benefits the team. and it's only a matter of time once the regular season gets going.

in that process, francis just needs to keep his ego in check and work hard.

Why are you even arguing his point? You don't remember James shooting 0% from 3 in the playoffs a couple years back?

But then you'd have to remember that he did still score significantly more than Lu because, after all, he has decent handles, can drive, and wasn't restricted to just chucking from the perimeter. You would also recall that James scored more points in 4 games of the Mavs series than Luther scored in any of the games against Utah. Then there's the fact that despite his poor 3pt shooting in that series, James still shot 47% from the field, compared to Lu's 31%...

    Wow, I guess 3pt% isn't everything...

    Superstar talent? Umm...

If jumping high past age 30 is superstar talent, then I guess so.

I doubt anyone was thinking the Steve Francis of old was coming back. If they were then they've been getting high one too many times. I thought or think that Steve can come in here and put up good numbers (10 pts/ 3 assists/ 3 rebounds) in limited minutes. He has the talent, still, to be able to do that for the Rockets and that's pretty much what we need from him. Sure that's what Luther can get us but Steve gets it by penetrating and taking it inside.

He may still be able to play a significant role if Alston or James gets injured/traded, but right now, with Wells playing great basketball, Alston doing better than expected, James doing what he does best and Head fitting into the system better/faster than I anticipated, Francis will have to bide his time.

If he loves this team and this city as much as he said he did, then he should just have a "wait and see" approach. There's still 82 games to be played and griping about not being in rotation for meaningless preseason games is kinda stupid.

And lest we forget, the history of Yao and McGrady tells us that those two are going to miss some games this year (God forbid) and if that happens, we'll need all the firepower we can get.

...It's not, my point was Head is a way better outside shooter then James which I was making a point to the original poster I replied to. James definitely does other things better then Head but not an outside reliable shot.

I don't get the comparison of Head to James, Head will be in the rotation as long as James, Alston shoots poorly from the outside. Otherwise, Head would be not needed. Francis on the other hand, he is basically James and Adelman seems to only need one James type in the rotation.

I meant one bad playoff series from Luther notwithstanding.

    bingo.

but it's super duper cute watching all the francis apologists fool themselves into thinking that francis has even a modicum of what he had 6 years ago; nevermind the sh!tty attitude he's had since day one.

The *superstar* who nobody seems to care much about....

    Magic let him go.
    Knicks let him go.
Rockets may be having second thoughts about getting him back.

    Francis the Superstar....

That's a good one Rocks!! Almost as good as Antoine Walker being a good player. You crack me up! :D

I was surprised when we signed Steve for that basic reason. What did we need both for, especially when we already had Head?

I really hope Stevie does get some minutes and isn't placed on the inactive list. With so many guards, I don't know how Adelman is going to do it, but I feel like SF can really help when he finally does turn the corner. At least, that's what I'm hoping.

Im not sure Steve has much trade value at this point.

I feel sorry for him as well, but I doubt there will be a buyout. He needs to just keep working and maybe be useful in case of injuries.

Steve francis has to work his way into the mix,You don't get nothing for free or just because the fans selected you to a few all star games.Steve has a ego and he still doesn't have the mentality of the concept of TEAM. You don't start whining like a little baby just because you don't play in a preseason game and you have a full 82 games left + the playoffs to prove you belong on the court. He has to earn his minutes with TEAM play just like everybody else,Further more he is showing his immaturity by mouthing off and is still the darn preseaon. He and mcgrady and Yao need to hush up stop complaining and get themselves out of the first darn round.

These dudes are showing lack of patience which translates as players who will perform this way when the going get's tough in the playoffs. It is way to early to start complaining and whining and you haven't even built chemistry or even played one regular season game. You have to let nature take it's course and see what developes to see that change was necessary and that Rome wasn't built overnight.

Steve needs to stop holding the ball so darn much not only does he dribble too much he holds the ball too much. He doesn't swing the basketball with the vibrations of moving the ball, Isiah gave minutes to the rookie marty collins because they saw steve wouldn't move the basketball. He has to play within the system and the TEAM and so far he hasn't looked sharp in doing these things.

Also mcgrady shouldn't comment on who needs to play being the LEADER of the TEAM, as the leader you always support the coaches decision in matters of playing time, you never undermined the athority of the coach by giving your opinion on who should and shouldn't play.

Steve is showing so far that he isn't a TEAM PLAYER and this is why they didn't want him in orlando, new york or portland. He either needs to man up and obtain some patience and hard work or tell managment to trade him. He thought it was going to be old times when he was a rookie playing in houston, he has the comfortability of playing where he calls home in front of his family, he was the man in houston and he feels it should be the same way it was before which was all about him. He is wrong, maybe he shouldn't went to the mavericks or the clippers but he didn't do that becasue of comfortability and he thought he didn't have to work it was all going to be handed out to him rolled on the red carpet and the fans would be enough for him to get playing time,no TEAM work,no basketball IQ.

The rockets so far have a bunch of WHINERS and no LEADERS.

I feel sorry for Franics. Good guy... plays with heart and seems to care. I want him to succeed but he just has a low basketball IQ. It's not his fault he has low basketball high but at the same time, he cant do much to improve it. You either have it, or you don't.

If anything, Francis had a better chance to survive in Gundy's system which has very set and well defined parameters. Over time he could be expected to get used to them. Adelman's system requires constant thinking by the players. They need to react to the defense and keep the ball moving.

    Unfortunately, Francis can neither

    a) think, nor
    n) move the basketball, nor
    c) move without the basketball

He still has more fighting spirit than either Yao or Tmac. But that's not enough....

PS. On this team the only role Francis can fill is one of coming out of bench for 10-15 minutes a game while Yao and Tmac get some rest. He can be the primary ball handler and keep the pressure on the other team by constantly driving to the basket. This move would require him to park his ego at home. So far, doesn't seem like he is ready to do that....

It's a long season. I would tell anybody on the Rockets to keep their head down, keep working hard and let it play out. When you are going for a championship, you have to check your egos at the door.

I'd be pissed too. If Francis just wanted a ring, he could have signed for peanuts with a contender. Yeah I went there.

Well, if things don't work out, I'm sure it was for the best. We should all trust Adelman's judgement, as he's worked with lots of talented players in his time. He knows who's going to fit best in his offense. I still see Francis getting more time off the bench as the season progresses. It never hurts to have that option.

some people are in serious denial concerning certain players
