Base on what he has done in last 2 years, I don't think he has the capability of bringing a champ. We need not terminate his contract for sake of money, but we don't have to give him one more year either! This is a wrong move, regardless what we hope, it cuts options off before facing the hard time.
Only you'll remember that, no one else will...except maybe MavsFan (like MacFan)....but they wont' say anything - why? Because all you have to say back is "Steve Nash" Frankly, doesn't matter if you lose by 40 or 4. If it wasn't for JVG, we wouldn't have made it to Game 7,
Frankly, if it was for PJ, we would have made it to WCF. JVG doesn't deserve the extension. With same money, he bought a Ford back, while PJ can give us a Benz.
While a good coach, Jackson is overrated. Some of us could have "coached" a championship or two out of the Jordan era Bulls. I'm for JVG.
There is no coach in the world who could have taken the current team with all the flaws it has to the WCF. We didn't have a freakin power forward and we had a patch-work of overthehill overacheiving guards to surround Yao and T-Mac. If Phil Jackson can't win a championship with Kobe and Shaq in their prime when they faced some legitimate competition, surrounded by a better cast then T-mac and Yao had, how in the world do you think he can do better here???????
(1) Nonsense. The 40-point blowout is the culmination of the series. People remember the Rockets being "clutch" and coming back from 0-2, people will remember this "collapse" (and the subsequent "worst loss in game 7") whenver a vaguely similar situation occurs. (2) A team with "the heart of a champion" wouldn't have needed to take it to game seven after going up 2-0.
Hakeem has the heart of a champion, and i doubt he could go out there at his age and win...my point - it takes more then heart to win. This team had heart, but lacked talent. Finally, I'm sorry, but the only time I remember the 40point loss is when you keep bringing it up!
Let's see: He lost against Legitimate contenders: San Antonio (eventually NBA Champ) and Detroit (reigning champ) He won against teams like: The Sacramento Kings Dallas Mavericks and for his rings.... The "Me myself and Iverson" Philadelphia 76's The "where are they now?" New Jersey Nets and "Always a bridesmade, never a bride" Indiana Pacers Wow, that's a pretty impressive list of Laker championship victories. Wonder how come no one ever seems to remember how the Lakers got those three rings? Let's how did Phil do against Detroit....how about losing 4-1??? Do you remember that....so much for the heart of the champion right Phil Jackson fan?
That is what you get for being Jeff Van Gundy. Incidentally, in the other thread you wrote: ergo, Jeff Van Gundy should be forgotten, and Phil Jackson should be remembered.
Im sorry but i am not going to jump on a Phil Jackson bandwagon. I have never thought he is a good coach and no one can tell me other wise. The guy will only go to a team that has all the right players and everything basically set up for him and he comes in does some nice recruiting to get other players (ill give him credit for that) but other than that he doesn't do crap. I mean give anyone shaq and kobe together and the teams they played in the playoffs those years and they would have made a nice run. Phil has a way of bringin in the right role players through recruitment. I want to see phil come into a crappy team that has no dominant superstar and turn it around. If he is such a good coach then why not take on a project team and prove you can turn around the team and make them something. That's the test of a coach..not picking and chosing which is the best scenario for you to make sure your winning perecentage is in tact. I commend JVG because he and CD took a team and made all kinds of moves to make it better than it was and i am sure with enough time geling they will be fine and i like how we showed a lot of people what we can do. We are an up and coming team and i am glad we are sticking to our guns and JVG....screw Phil and everyone thinking he is some miracle worker when he hasn't done jack crap. Those rings belong to the players...phil can suck it
Who are you, Phil Jackson's publicist? There are plenty of great coaches that have never won a championship. If Larry Brown would not have been thrust into the right situation at the right time (Pistons), he would have probably never won a championship. Does that mean that he was less of a coach? Coaches like Van Gundy, you can count them on one hand. How many coaches currently employed have been through the playoff battles that JVG has been in? Let's face it: A coach-even great ones-are as good as their players. Jackson and Red Auerbach have had multiple all-star level players at all time. Yes they are great coaches who won multiple championships, but they had a minimum of three hall of famers on their teams everytime they coached a basketball game (Bird, Jordan, McHale, Parish, Pippen, Bill Walton, Dave Cowens Ainge, H. Grant)
I wish I had that kind of money... Phil Jackson doesn't need a publicist. His record speaks for itself, and not going after the guy is stupid.
Yeah, and he beat those same Spurs three times in a seven game series in those five seasons, including at least one sweep. The dude wins a championship seven out of every ten times.
It's a problem when one of your superstars has a ego problem and don't want to do what won them 3 championships.
If it came down to a choice I would have to take Phil Jackson over JVG. JVG is a fine coach and I don't want ot take anything away from him, but PJ seems to be able to get teams over the top like no other coach around. Look at Sacramento, they came so close so many times and just couldn't get over the top. Now they are having to break down their team and start over. There is a list of other teams that did the same thing, get very close and not pull it off. JVG and the Knicks are on that list! IMO it takes a special coach to get teams to the championship, and that is a very short list. Plus I happen to agree with himself that he could do wonders with Yao. Plus, plus he attracts good players. You know what they say about great coaches: He can take HIS'N and beat YOUR'N or he can take YOUR'N and beat HIS'N. I forget whom I'm quoting, sorry. I think it was Bum Phillips.
This is the NBA, you will have gos all the time. If a coach cant deal with that, then he isn't doing his job
