Yeah I'm really glad the Big 12 and SEC agreed to doing the "new" Sugar bowl or whatever it's called now. Bama vs OU was fun last year. TCU/Baylor vs. Bama/MSST/Ole Miss/Auburn would be a very entertaining game. I'd much rather be in that game than the Orange Bowl vs. Clemson or whatever other crappy team makes it from the ACC.
Where do you guys think Mississippi St and Baylor/TCU end up this week? The TCU-Kansas game really shook up my perception of TCU. However, I don't think I could drop them after a win while the team behind them had a bye. I do think you could put Baylor ahead of TCU next week if Baylor beats Ok St while TCU has a bye. I know it doesn't really matter until the end of the season. The committee has been good at starting the rankings from scratch every week instead of doing what the polls have always done which is reward teams who lose early in the season.
It should be, and I think it will be Alabama, Miss. State, Oregon, and Florida State as the Top 4 teams. No reason for Miss. State to drop out when their only loss is @ Alabama. TCU barely beating Kansas might have screwed them, because not only will they probably drop out, but now Baylor is looking a lot better as well if they can win out.
As much as I would love it...my Tigers have quit on the season. The Iron Bowl is going to be a massacre.
I think it will be these 4, but I think Baylor jumps MSU if MSU, Alabama, and Baylor all win out. Baylor will have better wins (1-loss TCU, 2-loss K-State) and have a conference title. MSU's best wins would be a 3-loss Ole Miss and 4-loss Auburn. Baylor and MSU both have garbage non-conference schedules, and the committee has favored big wins thus far. Minnesota falling a few more times would help eliminate TCU. It would just be very hard to leave out a 1-loss conference champion team from the 2nd ranked conference in favor of a 1-loss non-champ, even from the best conference.
Very possible. You very well might be right, and I wouldn't have a problem with that outcome. Though, I do think it will be hard for the committee to drop a 1 loss MSU with their only loss being 5 points @ Alabama. That's a much more forgiving loss than @ West Virginia. Neither scenario would surprise me, though. I don't think you could argue either outcome.
Like I mentioned earlier, a rep from the committee said winning the conference championship will be a huge bonus at the end of the year but also made it clear that losing the conference champ would be considered a "good" loss. It'd be funny if MSST is ranked #5 here on out, Bama wins the SEC title and MSST finishes 4th out of nowhere.
I wonder if he meant winning a conference championship game or winning the conference. It's only relevant to the Big12, but I'm guessing it's the former.
11/18/2014 25. Minnesota 24. Louisville 23. Nebraska 22. Clemson 21. Oklahoma 20. Missouri 19. USC 18. Georgia Tech 17. Utah 16. Wisconsin 15. Arizona 14. Auburn 13. Arizona State 12. Kansas State 11. Michigan State 10. Georgia 9. UCLA 8. Ole Miss 7. Baylor --------------- 6. Ohio State 5. TCU --------------- 4. Mississippi State 3. Florida State 2. Oregon 1. Alabama
Were you expecting a change this week? You aren't going to punish TCU for winning when Baylor didn't play. It doesn't matter if it was a bad win. It's likely that Baylor will pass TCU next week when TCU is the one with a bye.
Ohio State jumping into the mix surprises me - I don't think they have any business in there with a home loss to a crappy VaTech team. But they could be a real problem for Baylor. If the committee thinks they are better now, and they beat Wisconsin in the B10 Championship, it's hard to see how you justify moving Baylor above them down the line. Beating Wisconsin would be just as impressive as beating K-State, and both would earn a conference title. Baylor would have better wins and a better loss, but they have that now and are still below Ohio State.
It seems okay for the committee to give OSU somewhat of a pass on that VT game. Their true freshman QB was starting his second game ever after the Miller injury. What's Baylor's excuse for laying an egg against WVU? Excuses might matter to the committee, when the teams are this close together the committee has to look at everything in order to make a case for one team over another.
