Yes but they are undefeated and the defending national champions. (They remind me of FSU last year...who deserved to get a shot at the playoff but were thoroughly exposed once they got there) If Baylor wins out (and thus beats 3 top 15 teams in the process), there is no doubt they will be in the top 4
Here is my possible scenario for U of H to make the CFP. The key is obviously U of H has to win out, but also that by the end of the year, only 3 Power 5 teams have 1 or 0 losses. So here is a possibility... Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State win out Stanford beats Notre Dame Nebraska beats Iowa The real problem is that there will be a Big 12 team with only 1 loss for sure (or Ok. State could stay undefeated) So is it more likely that the committee picks Houston over a 1-loss Big 12 team, or for them to pick them over a potential 2-loss Alabama team. But then you have to have Florida lose to FSU, otherwise Florida would win the SEC with 1 loss, or Alabama could lose to Auburn and then beat Florida. So many possibilities still! At least the Pac 12 is out of it now with Stanford and Utah losing last night. It would just suck to go undefeated and be relegated to a Peach Bowl game against a 2-loss SEC team, and then Tom Herman would probably leave to coach Miami, Missouri, South Carolina, USC, he'll have so many schools giving him crazy money, and this could all be a one year wonder. Oh well, I'll try to savor this as long as possible. This could even end up like 2011 with stupid Southern Miss beating us in the final game...
Not going to happen. Good news is we could end up in the Fiesta Bowl vs OU, Michigan St, ND, Baylor, TCU, Oregon, or Michigan.
No chance at the playoff. It is just the reality of the situation. Just enjoy the moment. A NY6 bowl would be HUGE.
I think our best chance is to be the only undefeated team left and make the AP top 5. That gives us a look see that will be hard to ignore. Memphis and Temple and Navy all have a chance to finish top 25.
How is the world could you think they could (or deserve) to go to the playoff when they would have beaten 1 ranked or two ranked teams. Both of which were ranked in the low 20s. With 3 non conference opponents that have a combined 9-20 record from the Sun Belt and OVC (what the hell conference is that?) conferences. That just gets them up to the 103rd ranked Strength of Schedule. Sorry you guys have everything together on the wrong year but this needs to be an example for programs to schedule bigger opponents when possible for the better of college football instead of an easier way to an undefeated record. I guess Baylor ended up being a good lesson for everyone not to judge a team before they have quality wins. This has nothing to do with UH. I would say the same thing about any other team (and do) and I would say this about Texas but they almost always schedule stronger schedules. Would UH be undefeated if they played Notre Dame and UCLA? Don't get mad when other teams get higher considerations even in losses because they played well against better opponents.
I understand your point but you know it's not easy to schedule these teams short notice/to know if they are going to be good. UH has consistently scheduled teams that look like they are going to do something Oregon T tech UCLA BYU Oklahoma OK State. It's disingenuous to say we scheduled no one when Louisville and Vandy looked good in prior years.
Tbf we scheduled Louisville in 2013 right after they had moved to the ACC coming off the Sugar Bowl win. We scheduled Vandy in 2014 shortly after they beat us in a bowl game with their program looking like it was heading in the right direction (prior to Franklin bailing). Neither program are as good as now than when we scheduled them (though Louisville is not bad, they could finish this season at 8-4). Next year, our schedule will include OU and Louisville.
11/17/2015 25. Wisconsin 24. USC 23. Oregon 22. Ole Miss 21. Memphis 20. Northwestern 19. Houston 18. TCU 17. North Carolina 16. Navy 15. LSU 14. Florida State 13. Utah 12. Michigan 11. Stanford 10. Baylor 9. Michigan State 8. Florida 7. Oklahoma 6. Oklahoma State 5. Iowa 4. Notre Dame 3. Ohio State 2. Alabama 1. Clemson
Bottom line: Clemson and Alabama will win out and be in. UNC may present a challenge for Clemson in the ACC title game. Assuming Ohio State beats Michigan State and Michigan, they will play Iowa for a spot in the Big Ten title game. If Oklahoma State wins out, they will displace Notre Dame. Otherwise, Notre Dame clinches a spot by beating Stanford (which they will). It is doubtful anyone outside the current top 6 gets in, but weird things happen all the time in college football.
Oklahoma is last years Ohio State.. they dont fear the SEC.. BOb stoops will have the kids ready to play againist anybody in the tournament i love trevon boykin, but for sake of seeing the SEC lose for the 3rd year in a row, i need OU in the tournament
Like the previous poster already mentioned, you've got to include OU. If they win out, I think they also get in over ND. They'll have more quality wins. What's really going to make a mess of things is if Clemson or Ohio State loses a close game.
ND's one loss was to Clemson. If they win out, I don't think there is much doubt they get in over OU. If Ohio State loses to Iowa in the Big Ten title game, there is no mess because Iowa simply takes their place. If Clemson loses, the ACC gets left high and dry. This is how OU vaults into the top 4. What could create some chaos is Ohio State losing to Michigan or Michigan St and beating Iowa.
Nebraska will make it very tough for Iowa, UNC is very hot now..., just destroying teams now. Clemson vs UNC will be a great ACC title game.
TCU falls to 18...their only loss is to OK State who is the #6 team in the country. Meanwhile, Ole Miss doesn't play...has 3 losses...and rises to #22. Sure.
Heard an interesting argument this morning - if both ND & OU win out (and assuming that Clemson, tOSU & Alabama don't mess up), the committee could look at the results from the opponent that the two shared: Texas. If they do, advantage = ND
Because everyone on the committee sees TCU as fraudulent. They were 45 pt favorites and won by a score against Kansas. I actually think TCU and Baylor were underrated last year. This year is a different story for different reasons. TCU lost their entire defense and Baylor lost their QB, and even though Stidham is playing well, the transition has changed the offensive play calling. Also, Ok St. is fraudulent imo and Baylor should beat them down this Saturday.
