Anybody think McFadden have a shot at the Heisman? I mean did this game help any? I though Tebow pretty much had it wrapped up.
Yes. They are this year's overlooked team. Against Nebraska, their QB looked like Joe Montana. I can't remember ever seeing a college QB play that well. For some reason, a lot of KU's games have been on TV in Houston and I've caught most of them. Their defense is nothing special but they have serious talent on offense. A couple of my good friends are KU alums so I'm pulling for them.
I am rooting for Ohio State, for blatantly obvious reasons. That being said, I would rather win the Rose bowl than lose the NC game.
This is just IMHO, but I think Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl is a lock and I think if Texas ends up in the Cotton Bowl it will increase the chances that they'd pick Arkansas. You know that Arkansas fans would buy boatloads of tickets to the Cotton Bowl just to get the shot to play Texas. I went on record before this game that the only way I'd buy a ticket to the Cotton Bowl is if they got to play Texas.
I'm guessing Kansas vs. Missouri is now the latest "game of the century". I think Kansas has been unfairly underrated lately -- the same critics who claim they've had a soft schedule were all over Ohio State's nuts until they got exposed by Illinois. That said, whoever wins Kansas vs. Missouri should definitely play for the national championship, against West Virginia (assuming they take care of there business). I still think LSU is the best team in the country, but that's just the nature of the beast in the SEC. All the teams are so talented, and anybody can beat anybody on any given day. Les Miles made two crucial mistakes -- playing the half-legged Glen Dorsey extended minutes when he should've been kept out, and trying to go with a finesse game plan against a physical, run-oriented team. You know #5 is going to get the ball, why not stack the box and pressure the backfield?
I thought the Cotton Bowl took an SEC #3 team and possibly a #4. I can think of a number of schools that would seem to be ahead of Arkansas including LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and Kentucky. I may be incorrect on those because I am not sure. I think out of the 12 teams in the SEC, 10 are bowl eligible. I am not rooting against Arkansas at all but I just don't see how they could get that good of a bowl.
I am willing to bet that they will be an underdog and lose to OU. I don't want them to but this has been a crazy season and it is just likely to happen. I just do not want Ohio State playing for the title. I would not mind West Virginia or Mizzou and definitely not Kansas. Hoepfully the Kansas/Mizzou winner will beat OU and play WVU in the title game.
Here's the deal. Florida last year had quite a few narrow wins, including one that involved blocking a game winning field-goal that kept their slim chances of making the championship game alive. They also needed a few gadget plays in the SEC championship. And then they went on to absolutely crush what everyone thought was far and ahead the best team in the country in the Buckeyes. A game that where everyone thought that the Gators themselves would've been blown out. So I give lots of credit to LSU in their close games this season. I think they're still the best team above the remaining contenders.
LOL... you do realize this is Nebraska, right? The same defense that gave up 600 yards and 40 points to Ball State... 65 points to an incredibly pedestrian Colorado group... 45 points to Oklahoma State, and 36 points to Texas A&M. Nebraska's defense makes every college QB look like Joe Montana. Kansas' offense is better than I expected, but "serious talent" is quite a stretch. That label goes to Missouri, which has two possible first round NFL tight ends, two first day receivers, and a strong RB... to go with arguably the best QB in the country. Also, the toughest test Kansas has had... was Texas A&M. Missouri has played Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas Tech... they're far more battle-tested in addition to being more talented. I'll be at the game tomorrow night, and while anything could happen, I'll be shocked if Mizzou doesn't win by double digits. And I say this as someone who has watched Mizzou for all 11 games and KU for all of their conference games. Also, not sure why there's so much Ohio State celebration... they still need one more loss.
It amazes me how many people are confused and think the order of bowl selection has anything to do with the standings. It does not have anything to do with the standings. The Cotton Bowl gets to select the #3 choice in the SEC, and that is somewhat muddy even. The conference champ goes to the BCS and if there is an at large selection, of course they go to the BCS as well. From there, the only bowl game that is tied into the conference standings is the Capital One Bowl. They must select the team with the best remaining conference record OR a team within one game of them in the SEC standings. Even that gives them a lot of leeway to select the team they think will bring the best fans. From this point, it is essentially free reign as to who the cotton bowl would like to select. Now, traditionally the Cotton Bowl is going to pick an SEC west team and the Outback and Peach bowls are going to pick SEC east teams. Now -- last year Auburn went to the Cotton Bowl and only sold about 4,000 of their alotted 12,500 tickets. Why would the Cotton Bowl want them? If LSU wins the SEC championship game over Tennessee and Georgia gets an at large BCS bid, then I think you have Florida going to the Capital One, and then Auburn and Tennessee going to the Outback and Chick-Fil-A bowl games. Essentially, bowls make selections on who they think is going to buy the most tickets, not who they think is the best team. Remember the 2001 season when the Hogs were 7-4 and 4-4 in the SEC and played Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl? Or when the Hogs were 7-4 and 4-4 in the SEC coming off of an upset victory over Tennesse and went on to defeat Texas in the Cotton Bowl? Don't they have a similar record this season? If you are the Cotton Bowl, would you rather have an Arkansas team with one of the most dynamic backfields in the history of college football, coming off of a win over the #1 team on the road, in a city that has the largest U of A alumni base outside of Arkansas, and where the fans are generally a 3 to 7 hour car drive away...OR do you want to select an Alabama team that just lost to Mississippi State and Louisiana Monroe? Or perhaps a Kentucky team that is several states away, doesn't have a strong football tradition, and played its best football months ago? Things are slightly muddied if LSU loses in the SEC championship game. I think the only team that could potentially go to the Cotton Bowl over Arkansas is Tennessee. Here are my bowl projections for the SEC: LSU -- BCS, Georgia -- BCS, Florida -- Capital One, Tennessee -- Chik-Fil-A, Auburn -- Outback, Arkansas -- Cotton, Music City -- Alabama, Liberty -- Kentucky, Independence -- Mississippi State. These predictions are based on Tennessee beating Kentucky and losing in the SEC championship game to LSU and Georgia defeating Georgia Tech. I would send Kentucky to the Music City Bowl, but they went to that game last year. I think they could still end up there this year, so you could potentially reverse the Liberty/Music City bowl selections. I think South Carolina will end up in some small time bowl game where a conference does not have enough bowl eligible teams to fill their slot.
On that subject, the now updated CBS bowl predictions have Arkansas in the Cotton: http://cbs.sportsline.com/collegefootball/bowls/predictions
Wait, are you kidding me? The GMAC Bowl is on January 6? Between the BCS games and the national championship? WTF??? The only games that should be played after Jan. 1 are the BCS games.
