Don't you remember, how we were 1st in the standing, then got dropped to the lower half of the playoffs? (in a matter of days) Celtics could go on a losing streak. Celtics are good. Very good. As well as Detroit. And maybe Toronto/Cleveland/Orlando. But after that, their all Memphis-lite teams. They suck. It's been the same story. East has only 1-3 great teams, the rest... suck.
That's the other inevitable argument east defenders make, but it says nothing about the strength of the conference as a whole. The east has the best team in the league, and another team that's about as good as the top western teams, but after that...bleh.
Even if Miles doesn't stagger around, what will Doc do when he starts sweating and the whole practice facility begins to smell like alcohol?
Don't forget the Wizards if they stay healthy. The Pistons also get a perfunctory mention based on winning the championship 4 years ago.
I've admitted the east has the best team, and we are talking about the current conference disparity, correct? Obviously we have different ways of defining the strength of a conference. I put more weight in depth and the number of good teams that you have to battle seemingly every night over the course of the season. I mean, all 8 playoff teams had 50 wins, and that's with them beating up on each other 4 times per season. The win/loss record of east vs west games is also a pretty good indicator. I did the math a while back, but dont have time to do it again, and can't find it with a quick search. You, on the other hand, put more stock in a single eastern team being able to win a single series against a western team. If that really is your criteria for determining the strength of a conference, then I will stop wasting my time arguing.
to save them from making a stupid mistake, i think they are better off with 12m in cap money than 21m. with 12m they might focus on hedo. with 21m they might actually overpay for marion and give him max money.
Even if they overpay for a "Marion" that's still an asset added to the team. Paul Allen doesn't appear troubled by LT. Anyway, it could turn out good for the Rockets if Portland look to jettison Przybilla's contract while packaging a young player as trade bait. Rockets have the expiring contracts to be in that raffle.
But the Rockets hate Pryzbilla. I remember CD saying that Pryzbilla quit on his team in college so the Rockets were never really interested in drafting him. Remeber the Rockets drafted Pryz for the Bucks as part of a trade down to pick up Jason Collier (R.I.P.). But I guess that was CD and co. I think Pryz has been a legit big man defensive force in the L throughout his career thus far, so maybe Morey feels differently than CD did.
I always had high money on Darius Miles, I'm glad he's coming back, he's really good when healthy. Damn, since 05'...
Are you kidding? Miles wouldn't be able to sniff minutes with Outlaw and Webster at the 3. Sorry, Blazers are my second fave team, and trust me, we are so not going to miss him.
A shot at 0.500? Coming out of the East? Getting a ring? I can only see Cleveland seriously vying for a championship, and even that's shaky given how bad Lebron's supporting cast is. Their frontcourt consists of an energy role player and two corpses. I wouldn't put any money on Washington so long as Arenas doubles as their best player and point guard. He's an elite scorer, but the only time they've played as a team has been when he's in street clothes. Not too different from the Iverson Sixers. Evan
