Those JVG Rockets were just a rough time in terms of our salary being tied up in 2 oft injured stars in Yao and T-Mac and a terrible contract in Juwan Howard. We just had no space to ever really do anything. The roster building wasn't on him. Sure, he liked his old vets from previous teams, but the starting 5 and main bench player talent or lack of it wasn't on JVG. Ryan Bowen wouldn't be a starting PF defending prime Dirk today in the playoffs.

Didn't JVG show a more modern approach coaching the US team recently? The man's not a dumby. He can evolve. Even Pop evolved to continue to win in this crazy 3pt era. He said it wasn't basketball anymore and he hates the 3, but pop had no choice and JVG would have no choice but to adapt and he's had a lot of time to gameplan.

 

At this point it wouldn't surprise me if someone in the higher ups did want him fired because a lot of what's been going on hasn't made sense.

1. Ainge was looking towards leaving his GM role and probably knew it was his last season but did not trade for Harden to set up his successor with a better team?

2. Stevens turning down a $70 contract in Indiana to be a GM of a team that don't have cap space nor any valuable draft picks?

3. Stevens taking the GM job and now will have to find a coach that can come in and take this roster to more success?

4. Someone in the Celtics ownership group wanting to fire Stevens without understanding that he'd be hire in an instant he becomes available because he's actually a good coach?

 

You think Jaylen Brown and Kemba Walker being out would be too much for Harden? Assuming the Rockets get Jason Tatum in return.

 

Weird story. I don’t really see how this is a good thing for the Celtics though. Hmm....

 

No joke.... why not just call up Paul Pierce or Milk Hair and see if they are available.... if you are going to hire a POS, at least hire a fan favorite POS.

It's not that hard for all of Ainge's mistakes they do have 2 young wing superstars in Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. You can even throw Marcus Smart in there as an elite role player who fits perfectly with those 2.

Ainge missed out on really capitalizing on all those picks, let Irving and Hayward go for nothing and signed Kemba to the new worst deal in thr NBA but with the core already in place they are in a great position imo.

Not bad. He said one reason he wanted to retire was to spend time with his family. I think that means he'll be signing on with another team in about a week.

 

It would be a great achievement if it were in most NBA franchises. But for Celtics, lakers and one or two other, probably only passable to good.

He's had a nice long run, probably a good time for a change for both ainge and the Celtics.

I love JVG, but I’ll never forgive him for running those Charlie Ward-Rick Brunson-Clarence Weatherspoon lineups when Yao and T-Mac were hurt. That **** was unwatchable. If you’re going to be bad anyway, at least have some fun and try to be entertaining.
