His comments in a private phone conversation don't really negate that. People have simply decided to react to it as if it were a public comment.

Incidentally most people in this country go through their entire lives without having black friends so I've never understood how this became a pretext for insinuating racial prejudice.

 

Nah, I believe Usher signed him up and gave him a chance but his actual manager is the Scooter Braun cat. They both run a label together. I think Braun is also Carly Rae Jepsens manager.
