With two abortions at QB and now the lack of a high profile RB... it seems like the Bears would be better off snapping the ball back to Hester and letting him try to juke his way to the end zone 10-15 times a game.
Benson just isn't a great football player, that's the problem (as some others have said) I couldn't care less about character issues... as long as guys aren't murdering people or something, I don't care. but Benson just isn't good in the NFL
As a big UT fan, I'll be the first to admit that I was shocked Benson went as high as he did. I think he can succeed in the right situation, but it was becoming clear that Chicago wasn't the right situation. What Benson could or "should" give you is the back who can give you the tough yards, help move the chains, and attack the line of scrimmage. What he'll never give you in breakaway speed or a shiftiness to overcome a crappy O-line. I think his rookie season holdout caused a rift and a slow start, and in many ways, he's never overcome that. I do think he'll get another shot in the NFL, and I think he has the potential to turn his career around. He's always been a hard worker, and maybe he'll look to prove the Bears wrong. I hope he does, but we'll just see who he signs and how it all plays out.
Selvin was a better pro the second he signed with Denver, I think we'll see big numbers from SY next season now that Henry is out of the picture.
Benson is a cancer in the locker room. He was a cancer at UT-Austin and he was a cancer in Chicago. Maybe the dude needs a change of scenery. I know him and Eric Winston were teamates in midland. If the Texans pick him up it's gonna be one of those low risk high reward type contracts. Not making excuses for him but the Bears locker room peged him with a bullseye from day one. Cendric didn't do anything to win them over.
He's going to the Raiders. He's better than anyone they've had since Marcus Allen and Davis likes giving marginal players a second chance.
With McFadden, LaMont Jordan, and Justin Fargus on board, I don't think they have much use for Benson. Also forgot that they picked up Michael Bush last year.
You think he's better than McFadden? McFadden may not have proven anything in the NFL yet, but I would still take him over Benson.
Cedric is 3-yards and a cloud of dust. He's probably at around a 4.65 40 at this point, can't break tackles, and can't get tough yards. He really excelled at Texas when he shared the backfield with Vince.
Up here in Chicago, everyone's been hoping for this since he got picked up in Austin this weekend. I'm no Bears fan, but people here are tired of waiting for him to come around and justify the #4 pick. He's just not that good, and it's not going to hurt them that much if he's gone. Benson didn't live up to expectations -- he showed flashes of being a quality back, but that's it. David Carr showed flashes of being a quality QB too. Benson is a #2 guy at best, and the Bears just don't need him around any more if that's all he's going to be. Chicago is a franchise that's made a lot of mistakes, but this was a good move.
Wrong. He's not better than Bo Jackson, Steve Smith, Napolean McCallum, Napoleon Kaufman, Harvey Williams, Tyrone Wheatley, Charlie Garner or even Dominic Rhodes for that matter. The Raiders have arguably the most talented backfield in the league with Fargas and McFadden (4.3 speed RBs) and Mike Bush.
Too bad the Oline can't open any holes for them to run through. I was just posting about him going to the Raiders to get a rise out of you. With all these high draft choices your raiders have had lately sooner or later it has to convert to wins... right?
Actually we were a very good running team last year, we're doing the ZBS now same as the Texans and Broncos and Justin Fargas is pretty much the perfect back for the cut and run. McFadden will probably get around 10 touches a game and be used similar to Reggie Bush. 3rd down, passing situations, a little slot. Should be fun to see what all they do with him. They are going to have to institute a shorter passing game because the O-line is much better at run blocking. Hopefully Russell can develop some accuracy and not have to rely on just heaving it downfield. If there isn't any improvement this year heads will roll. Oh yes heads will roll. There are still bizarre rumors going around that Lane Kiffin is a figurehead (i.e. lame duck coach) and doesn't have any personnel authority and WR coach James Lofton will take his place when he's fired. The good news is Al is slowly being phased out and this spending spree in the offseason was largely the work of a new group that recently bought 20% interest in the team. Sigh. I think we've gotten better but at this point my expectations remain low and I'd be ecstatic to see us win 7 games. I will have to admit the Cowpokes have a pretty damn nice backfield these days.
That name brings back some of the early days of our Ffootball league -- KN was unstoppable in 1997 -- one of my sleepers that year.
Nap was the hometown legend back in Lompoc California where I grew up. It was awesome when he got drafted by the Raiders, everyone followed his career religiously. My best friend's dad coached him when he was in Youth Football League. 97 was his signature year. I remember him breaking off those homeruns almost every game. 1294 yards. 227 in one game against the Broncos which is still a Raider record. Combine that with Jeff George and Tim Brown's career best seasons and I still wonder how they only won 4 games that year. Of course he retired to pursue being a minister instead of taking a 2.5 million dollar contract extension back in 02. He's now the pastor of a Church up near San Jose.
