that's because no one in this forum has ever credited mclane with hiring the right man in hunsicker and retaining him here for nearly a decade....despite constantly harping on him for hiring purpura and wade.
No kidding. You guys have really been suffering a long time. It must really suck to be you. Thoughts and prayers. Kind regards, Pirate fan
Ah certainly - the major problems are much bigger. When I think of band-aid, I think of a non-solution designed to just placate fans. I do think the move was necssary, though not remotely sufficient. I'm guessing there will be lots of changes this offseason - or at least I hope he's finally seeing the light.
You're right. McLane is better than McMullen and the Astros are better than the Pirates. I should be happy with that.
I want them to be better, too. I'm frustrated, too. No beef with your frustration; just had to hit that hanging curve out of the park.
You can fire a big part of the team. I would not be surprised if Ed Wade lets 10 of the 25 man roster go this winter. For starters, Kazuo Matsui, Darin Erstad, Miguel Tejada, Chris Coste, Doug Brocail, Humberto Quintero, Mike Hampton, Jason Michaels, and Aaron Boone should be "fired".
Why are people bashing Wade? What did he do that was so darn wrong? Bad moves - Matsui Oscar Villarreal Chacon Good moves - Bourn Hawkins Valverde Wolf So So Moves - Tejada - only reason this isn't not a good move is Miggy's darn decline in the 2nd half of seasons, other then that he has been a good leader in the clubhouse, above avg hitter SS and the dude aged 3 years in only 1 yr lol. We gave up Scott and Patton but nothing else of impact and Scott isnt an all star or anything. Not re-signing Wolf wasn't his call that was Uncle D/Tal/Economy I just don't understand what the guy did so bad?
they're trying to rebulid a farm system. that won't happen overnight. they're drafting players and signing them. the guys aren't ready yet. meanwhile, they're hoping to field a team that is at least mildly competitive while they rebuild the farm.
The starting pitchers after Roy and Wandy: Brandon Backe (10.38 ERA) Felipe Paulino (6.06) Russ Ortiz (5.57) Mike Hampton (5.30) Bud Norris (5.07) Brian Moehler (4.86 - approximately league average) The lot of them (except for Moehler from mid season on) had trouble getting out of the 4th and 5th innings.
It's pretty incredible actually. Posted at the exact same time with the exact same thread title. What are the odds?
