Not surprising. The team quit playing for him the last couple of weeks. Anyone, expecting more out of this team this year though, is clearly delusional. I guess the next shoe to drop is Ed Wade, seeing how we did not make the playoffs this year.
Not surprising at all. I don't blame Cooper for this season. But I don't think Cooper is a great manager, anyway. If you don't think you have the right guy, you move on.
Agreed. Cooper is not the reason the team is bad. When you assemble a bad cast of players they tend to be bad. That said, Cooper wasn't contributing anything on the positive side either, so just move on. The players didn't like him obviously and he made many mistakes. Oh well.
Liked that he was fired because he was terrible, but hopefully there is more to this than just McLane being trigger-happy like always.
Not surprised he got fired. Kind of surprised he got fired right now. What's to point of firing him with 2 weeks left? It's not like we're going to bring somebody in who's going to be the manager next year.

Third base coach Dave Clark will serve as interim manager the final 13 games of the season. "Cecil Cooper has given his all to the Houston Astros," general manager Ed Wade said in a statement. "Decisions like this are never easy, but we believe that a change in a direction on the field is in order." The Astros have lost seven straight and eight of their last 10 games. With Sunday's loss they dropped to 70-79 and were eliminated from playoff contention. Cooper, who took over the Astros late in 2007, went 171-170. Prior to being named manager he served as the team's bench coach for nearly three seasons. Clark has never been a major league manager. He is in his first season on the Astros' major-league coaching staff. Clark served as manager of the Astros' Class AA Corpus Christi affiliate from 2005-07 and Class AAA Round Rock in 2008.[/rquoter]

Good job Drayton deflecting the blame away from youself. Firing the the skipper isn't going to solve anything. I guess you can now buy another 2 years of the same garbage before you make managerial changes to dust up your failure.

Agree...I actually like Coop AS A HITTING INSTRUCTOR lol but not as a Manager just never really got it. I have always liked Clark and thought with his managing experience in the Minors now was his time if not with us then with someone else. I WOULD LOVE to see them go after a Bobby Valentine if they plan to contend but if there going with a younger squad next year Clark should be the guy. A darkhorse guy to look at is Bill Doran, obivous Houston ties plus would love to bring back some old faces back to the fold...Doran, Hatcher, Cruz and Bass would be much welcomed.
