I never consider Francis and Mobley as good defenders and look what JVG have tranformed them into? So what i am saying is the ROX just need to sign player that play fundamental basketball and good shooters and they're set to go. Add FISHER and BARRY and they're ready to go for Championship. Heck...try to get Ray Allen or Rashad Lewis or Rasheed Wallace. There is no such thing as too many superstars...ROX just need to sign as much good shooters as possible cuz last year, they suck at shooting...they're horrendous!
I just remembered that CD did comment that he talked to T-Mac, who was on his way to see a doctor earlier today, and T-Mac was still amazed with us showing up yesterday. He was very impressed.
Last year the Rockets were the 3rd best 3-point shooting team in the NBA, behind only Sacramento and Seattle. And that's with their point guard shooting 29% from behind the arc.
I think I'll go with Barry. He's obviously a good shooter and an above average passer, but what I like is that he is good at filling the passing lanes on defense. He and T-Mac could create some havoc together. Fisher would be my next choice because he is a smart, spot up shooter(major plus in our lineup), decent defender, has playoff experience and one thing I think alot of people are ignoring, he knows how to play with a big man. Snow is overrated IMO. He can pass and play average defense, but the guy is not a shooter. He's going to get alot of looks with Yao and T-Mac demanding attention, so we need someone to fill the hole off of the pass. Snow is not the guy we need.
I'm sure CD is a nice guy. But jeez, the notion that he waited for Weisbrod to approach him about McGrady -- please, tell me another. It doesn't even square with what Van Gundy said on draft night, which was basically that when a player of McGrady's stature becomes available, you'd be foolish not to go after him. Is CD foolish? I don't think so. If he didn't approach Weisbrod, he had somebody approach McGrady, who magically (no pun intended) starts putting out the word that he'll re-up only with Houston. So of course Weisbrod comes to us. Then CD spins us this Clintonian technicality that Weisbrod approached him instead of the other way around. We've already got one GM in this transaction spinning incredible stuff to the media. Let's not have two.
mfclark must be flipping out. All that time he said the Rockets had no chance to get McGrady and that we were crazy to think we could get him and Orlando approached the Rockets! Heh. The Rockets are in the catbird seat!
By the way did you all see that J Howard will be wearing Cats #5.. I thought i would mention that considering that his press conference was held today and didnt think i should start new thread just to say that.
Deuce, I am not so sure about that. JVG has said in the past, that it is much easier for him to make a player a good defender than to make him a good offensive player. It makes a lot of sense if you think about it.
I agree with that. And I agree that makes sense. But for some reason, my gut tells me he will go with the defensive guy.
I'm pleased they're interested. very, very pleased. I'd like the 1 sewn up nearly as quickly as Suns did Nash.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1833036 Meanwhile, the Sonics are trying to re-sign free agent guard Brent Barry. Seattle has offered Barry a three-year, $18 million deal. However, at least one team is planning to offer the 32-year-old Barry $20 million for three years. Opps.. Barry is out of our price range!!!
Jeff Van Gundy came close to pulling a trigger on a trade that would send Eric Piatkowski to Cleveland for Kevin Ollie. I think it's safe to say he'll pick a defender over a shooter.
3 years at 20 mil is in the range of the TE we have available. 6.67 mil -/+ on the front and back side. Could be houston making the offer
What makes people think that JVG would instantly choose a defensive player when he said he could turn an offensive player into a defensive player? JVG also picked up Mark Jackson, not exactly a defensive wiz. Neither is Weatherspoon.
