Ok, I have been rethinking the whole issue of weight gain, and I have to correct myself to a certain degree. When I spoke of a 15 pound weight gain I was thinking of athletes with training experience. A person that has very little training experience can gain more than 15 pounds. There are several factors in gaining LBM (lean body mass)- 1. Frame size 2. Training experience 3. Genetic propensity for building muscle 4. Training program 5. Diet These factors are all interrelated and effect the ability to gain LBM in different ways. For example a large framed individual with little training experience can gain alot of weight in a year if properly trained because they are filling out their frame. Also, their adaptional window would be huge as they have done little to develop themselves. Everyone has an adaptional potential and the more you have done in your life training-wise the less your ability to show dramatic change. The less you have done in your training life the higher your ability to gain a good amount of weight, as your adaptional window is more open so to speak. Of course people with a tremendous genetic propensity can gain weight easily, however, few B-ball players fit into this category. B-ball players have a tough time gaining weight because of their conditioning needs for their sport, and because the vast majroity are ectomorphs ( the body type with the hardest time gaining weight). I post irregularly, and when I responded to the first psot I was thinking in terms of a professional B-ball player, and lost site of the numerous factors involved in gaining weight for the broader population. Having said that, it is still hard to gain more then 15 pounds for the average person, but not impossible. I apologize for the confusion on my part.
Good. Does this mean the weight gain portion of this thread is over. I think we need to give EG one more year to show what he can do, esp with JVG motivating and teaching him. He is still very young and has some upside, but he needs to show some dedication and major improvement this year. On the other hand, if we can make a deal to ship EG and one of our bad contracts off, and get a serviceable role player in return, then I'd be OK with that too. For Posey, anything over 4M per year would be too much, and please don't ink him for more than 4 years. The biggest mistake the rockets make is signing the role players for very long contracts. Sign your stars for long deals, but they should keep the role players to shorter deals, no reason to have Moochie around for six years.
