I don't think we would sign both VSpan and Banks. Even if the money is there for both of them, both started last year (even though spanoulis was in europe he was the best player on the best team in Greece) and I don't think either one of them would agree to a third string role. This is assuming that VSpan is point guard not a combo guard. I saw we sign Vspan and another shooting guard, and then see if there is anything decent to be had at power forward. With Vspan, Head and Snyder it'll be nice to have young role players for a change with potential.
Don't really like House or Butler. House is not great defensively, takes bad shots, and is a two trapped in a one's body. Head is already better than him and has a similar skill set. I am glad Butler is on his way to New Orleans because that dude would not fit in here at all. Too thin and weak to play the four, too slow laterally and poor of a ballhandler to play the two, and we have McGrady and Battier to man the three. I don't know what to make of some other prospects. Banks has talent and could be a decent backup for Alston, but he is not worth the full MLE. Ideally, we could get him and Spanoulis to split it, but I don't see that happening. Jared Jeffries has been a guy who I thought would fit well here because he can defend and is versatile enough toplay the five in an uptempo game or the three if we need a longer wing to spell Battier or McGrady, but his lack of a jumpshot and the his impending acceptance of the qualifying offer from Washington puts an end to that. Who else? I guess Ely would not be bad assuming he comes for a split of the MLE, but he is not worth the TE. Cato does nothing for me. Ariza would be decent, but would be crowded out like Butler. I am very interested to see who might want to dump some future salary because that is our best bet for the large TE.
Not true. Ainge was the one all over Scalabrine. It's that brain type fetish at work again. That's one of the reasons he traded for Telfair. I swear, if we can just forge Juwan's brain type analysis, we can trade him straight up to Boston for Al Jefferson and filler. Edit: I just looked at your link. I can't get to the original article by Morey, but that blog quote is a bit non-commital. I wouldn't be surprised if he just wrote it to somewhat justify the move instead of being the man behind the move. Because I'm sure that I read somewhere that it was Scalabrine's brain type that pushed Ainge into signing him.
Need another athletic wing player. Snyder is a good addition, but he can't hold down the fort all by himself.
I'm guessing Rockets will go after a PG with the MLE and bank on Sura to recover to play at the two? <table> <tr><td>Alston<td>TBA<td>TBA <tr><td>Snyder<td>Head<td>Sura <tr><td>McGrady<td>Novak<td>Rybo <tr><td>Battier<td>JHo<td>Hayes <tr><td>Yao<td>Deke<td>TBA </table>
The "Little Lucas" comment was probably from him being a ball boy for the Rockets way back when and the connection with John Lucas II and the Rockets. I think he'd probably would call him Little Lucas even if he sucked.
Yeah that'd be nice if we got Marcus Banks and Ariza with our MLE. Dump Bowen. Then sign a guy like Lorenzen Wright the TE where it makes Howard expendable and gives you a backup C when Mutumbo retires.
In my heart of hearts I believe that Sura is done. I really don't understand this allegiance to him. People on this board throw Wesley under the bus at the drop of the hat, but Sura is God like. Sura was a gritty player, but he is done. He can't guard any 2's in the league nor 1's. Wesley was undersized and always has been, but he played with as much heart as Sura. People tend to have forgotten that. By the way, I'm all for Wesley to go as well, but please let's stop with the Sura stuff.
Awesome. My favorite part was this: Actually, we're all stocked up on those... what we need are some starters!
What I find interesting is that in both this link and on 790 he talks about trying to make trades. I don't think he would say this if there wasn't anything close to happening. Now, I'm not saying something is imminent, but I think there are at least one or two deals in talks. What is even more interesting is that he is talking about trades and nothing about signing free agents. As much as I think a guy like Marcus Banks and others could be nice additions, I think the Rockets believe they have to get more proven players.
If you hadn't noticed I had Sura as a third option. I personally have no expectations regarding Sura in the upcoming season. However, unless the Rockets waive him he's going to take up a roster spot, but they haven't said or done anything that would suggest that they will.
LOL!!! Question though. If they have a starting five consisting of both TMac and Battier at the wings (instead of the 4), wouldn't that statement be true? Also, they seem to still covet adding more backcourt even after acquiring Snyder. Wouldn't this seem to kind of be pushing Luther Head out somewhat. I mean, let's say they add another point and a 2-guard, the depth chart would look some what like this: Alston/PG1/Sura Battier/Snyder/SG1/Head TMac/Battier/SG1/Bowen Howard/Hayes/Battier/Novak Yao/Deke Unless they have faith he can play the point, his role seems to be getting smaller and smaller. And, this is not even including Spanoulis. I dunno, I just have a gut feeling he may be included in a future deal. Just a thought.
I know I found that really interesting too. I think Head will be moved in a deal with another player for a starting PF.
