Mike James thinks he has had his revenge on the Rockets, but in reality he has just screwed himself over. And he's going to regret it too ... he will regret the fact that he's making less money than he could have had, and spending more than he would have needed to. He will regret not being able to stay with his family and newborn child during the season. I don't know for sure if he will regret riding the Timberwolf train to the lottery again -- he certainly didn't seem to have a problem with that in Toronto last season.

    Hello,

Thanks for letting me on this site...It's awsome...I can't believe I didnt' find it earlier. I can finally talk intellingent Rocket Basketball with people who know what they are talking about....
I'm actually tired of hearing about this Mike James thing. Yes, I would have liked to have him before all this started. However, looking back on how he doesn't reallly want to be here, we are better off without him. I spend money on season tickets every year and I feel alot better spending my money on players that appreciate the city, the fans, and the organization. If he doesn't want us, i'm glad we ddidn't get him. He proved during the whole process that he is a fake. He said the 2 things that made him a waste of time to me. First he said, he wanted to go to a team that could win a championship. Everyone knows Min has no chance of that. The rockets are in much better position. A team with Ricky Davis can't go far enough without some problems arising that would derail their season. So we know he isn't really about the winning. He just cares about every penny he can make. I know alot of players are llike him, but I like to think that some players still will take less to go to a better team. Also, he said it wasn't about the money a few weeks back. What did he do?? Go where he was getting the most money. In the end, I think he was just using the rockets. There is no way he was going to come here. He is one of those selfish players who are all about RESPECT and he wanted revenge. We got Beltraned again by a much lesser player. No tears here. We will survive and get someone who wants to play here. And also, KG calling him was probably a big deal to him since he knows Tracy doesnt think to highly of him. Yao is busy in china. Anyways, I'm done with my editorial. Thanks again for making me a rookie member. I look to be on here for a long time and see some of you at the games.

The tax thing is overblown in these discussions.

Yes, he will pay a state income tax in MN which he wouldn't pay in TX. However sales taxes, other taxes, and fees in MN are probably lower, and he will be able to deduct his state income tax from his federal tax return.

Similarly, many states now charge athletes taxes for road games too, so if yo u live in Texas and play a road game in NJ, you have to file an NJ tax return for that income.

And how many players out there available through trade or free agency are going to be better than him to warrant him being willing to come off the bench because you are playing with better guys?? Even Dallas was going to make him the starter at 2 guard. Do you think they are willing to do that if they didn't think he was the best player available to play the 2 guard for them if they had signed him?

By the way, I think Minny is going to be very much improved this year and is going to be one of those teams that will be in dogfights night after night and other teams will dread facing them by the end of the season. Really, if they traded with us and somehow got Juwan Howard to play the 5 for them, with KG at the 4, James and Davis in the backcourt, and Hasssell at the 3, that would be a pretty good lineup.

Mike James is about loyalty and winning. The guy has played for like 6 teams in 5 years. He finally becomes a free agent with the opportunity to do something about being shuffled around piller to post every year. Would any of us do anything different than he did to secure we wouldn't be moved around and get to play for a good team with one of the top 5 players in the game?

You'll quickly learn that "intelligent" doesn't quite describe the posts of many of the posters here.

WHOAAA...wait a second...First of all I hope you aren't talking about KG being a top 5 player still....I love KG and the heart he brings but he doesn't have what he used to...stop me if i'm wrong but without hesitiatoin, I thikn we can agree James, Wade, Anthony, Kobe, Yao, Dirk, Duncan, and several others belong ahead of KG...
Second, how can you say James is Loyal??? Loyal to who? I'm not saying he should have picked the rockets because they made a mistake by trading him but you can't say james is loyal either....There is a reason he has been on 6 teams in 5 years or whatever..if he is a great talent, why does NO team want to keep him?

    Jeff, your point is taken.

But before we can talk about "moving assets"....we have to HAVE assets to move. Let's get the assets first and not get ahead of ourselves. ;)

It's interesting that people are thinking that giving Mike James a trade kicker would not affect future negotiations with players you want. I don't think that thinking is very realistic. Like we can give it to him and then have leverage to tell future people we want to come that they can't have it because Mike James was in a special situation. That is not realistic. If I was in that position I would say that I don't care that Mike James was in a special situation. You gave it to him, give it to me. It is better to stick with your hard line. Don't break for him.

It's not the end of the world. We need to move on and look for other people to fit our system and will work complimentary with Yao and Tmac.

Mike James is loyal to his own ego. That's about it.

The whole thing is simple. The man was bitter about being traded, saw what he thought was a chance to screw over this city in revenge, and he took it. Good riddance to bad rubbish, Mr. two-faced "this-city-deserves-something-to-cheer-about", "I-want-to-play-for-a-championship", "Im-gonna-be-MVP-in-two-years" lying scum.

Uhh, that's the point of his post. A self-overrating player with a trade kicker doesn't constitute an "asset".

Exactly!! You don't break your rules for Mike James. If Dream can get tradeed to to Toronto and other players like Yao and Tracy don't have a kicker, we don't need to give the selfish litttle b*stard one either.

I think even if rockets would have thrown in the trade kicker, MJ would have still signed with the Timberwolves. His last minute demands were bushleague negotiations tactics by MJ and his agent and it just tells you the rockets were really never in the running. I personally think he played the rockets and the fan's. You could tell he still had some bitterness for being traded to Antartica. He will be the 2nd option in Minnessota and he would have been a 3rd option in Houston, taking shots behind high volume shooters in T-Mac and Yao. If he really wanted to win he would have gone to Dallas plain and simple. The way I see it, he was never coming here.

No, the point of his post was that by giving the trade kicker he wouldnt be as much of an asset in "FUTURE trades". I can buy that. Like I said, point taken.

However, right now we need BODIES, and can't be thinking about moves down the road when we dont have the bodies to even contimplate those potential future moves.

Mike shouldn't complain about us trading him, it was the best thing that could happen for him! If he had stayed here would he have put up the numbers he did in Toronto? Definitely not. Those numbers he put up are what got him the contract, sure he still would have got a decent contract, but IMO, nowhere close to what he did get.
