I'm pretty sure that the Rockets don't give any player trade kickers, period. That's from Les.

CD said on 610 am that he did offer the 4th year options, but the trade kicker was impossible! :p

Just say no to trade kicker.

There was nothing wrong with what we did to James. They made it clear immediatly after the trade that had Sura not got injured they wouldn't have traded away James. What the ****ing problem does James with that?

Let him rot in MIN. I wouldn't take him for league minimum even if he begs us in the future. **** him.

Yep, and that "don't give any" cost us the best available player for our team on the market.

Carroll Dawson has never been one to lie or even embellish the truth. That's why he is so well-respected around the league. When he gives his account of the "last-minute" Mike James negotiations, I am inclined to take him at his word.

That being said, if what CD says is true, then I can completely forgive the Rockets' supposed bungling of this deal. The Rockets essentially offered more money than Minnesota (based on no state income tax in Texas). CD thought getting James was a done deal. Then Bill Duffy (James's agent) calls at the last minute, saying that James wanted a player option on the fourth year and a trade kicker. CD agrees on the player option but not on the trade kicker (not wanting to set a bad precedent for future player negotiations). For Duffy to call back 15 minutes later, saying that Mike James is signing with the T-Wolves, that is just plain chicken-sh*t.

While I understand Mike not wanting to be traded, he and Duffy didn't have to wait until LITERALLY the last hour to even BRING UP the trade kicker. What did you expect CD to do? The Rockets have taken a hard-line stand that it will NEVER include a trade kicker in a contract. Not for Hakeem. Not for Tracy. Not for Yao. Not for anyone. If those are CD's marching orders, then you cannot blame any of this on Carroll.

Bottom line: Lay off of CD. He tried his hardest to get Mike James. In the end, the player and his agent introduced new business terms to a negotiation at the 11th hour. That is downright bad business practice. In the end, I think Mike James will regret signing with the T-Wolves instead of the Rockets.

BTW, what's the over-under on "Games Into the Season Before Mike James and Ricky Davis Start Arguing Over Shot Opportunities"???

Mike James was a "cheap prostitute" because there were no teams that wanted to "marry" him! ;)

Big mistake ... the "trade kicker" itself is not that big of a deal, in my opinion. It's a 3 or 4 year deal - come on. Only thing I could think of is the Rockets felt it would set a bad precedent for their other contracts. It's not exactly an unprecedented thing to have a trade kicker in a deal though. Lamar Odom had one and they had to make that Shaq deal happen knowing that Odom's $60 million deal had a trade kicker coming after year one.

If in fact the Rockets made the exact same financial offer as Minnesota, and the only issue was the trade kicker, what perspective does this put on Jonathan Feigen's Houston Chronicle defense of the non-deal, saying the Rockets were not going to pay "inflated, panic prices" and were wise to balk, even bringing out left-field references to Moochie Norris and Mo Taylor?

If it actually happened the way CD said it did, then I can't blame him. Fifteen minutes to make a decision seems just a tad short there. If MJ and his agent really did bring it up fifteen minutes before, then MJ was possibly just screwing with the Rockets.

Mike James must be an idiot to believe Min give him trade kicker. EVEN Garnett can be traded out of Min anytime.

You know most of NBA players has well developed extremeties with slowly developing brain...., Fortunately that's what we are enjoying for. ;)

The "setting the precedent" stuff is hilarious. A deal is signed only if 2 parties agree- All we have to say is "no deal" next time someone asks for that.

It is Amazing that these details- which they had a whole week to look over- were done on last minute phone calls- just weird!!!!!!!!!

Mike James could have helped us- heck if I recovered from the Draft day shock, this is just no big deal.

Now it will be Ricky Davis and Mike James who will light us up!

If he really wanted to screw Rockets, he should go to Dallas. Mis is not going to be much concern to me. If rockets worry about Min, then should give up next season again.
