Perhaps everyone's going to get overpaid this year. Maybe the Rockets don't want to pay star-dollars for average players... and don't want to pay average-dollars to mediocre players.

They are probably asking (at the low end) for a contract in the neighborhood of 4yr 16M which is around 4M a year.

Anthony Johnson of the Pacers just signed a 4yr 11.5M deal and he is a backup. My guess is that is the kind of deal the Rockets would love to sign with any of the remaining PGs, but perhaps at 3 years instead of 4.

I just dont think CD wants to sign anyone to anything more than 3 years for a role player. That makes sense to me.

I don't think it's the amount of money that the Rockets are afraid to give, I think it's the length of the contracts that free agents are asking for. Pretty much every free agent signing this summer has been 5 or 6 year deals. The Rockets just got rid of Moochie's long ass contract this past season, no use in giving another long term contract to another backup point guard.

    I agree.

I wonder if Arroyo has any idea how much money he left on the table.

How do any of us know that Utah's offer was not the best?

    Well, there's always Arroyo's backup's backup's backup, Mo Williams.

Hey, he's got talent and I'm thinking ahead, in the future; in the not so near future.

Chicago's the team, along with Utah, with an excess of point guards ( Hinrich, Gordon, and Duhon). One of these teams should be willing to deal.

Lue is capable of starting 82 games with Wilks or Gaines at the backup??? We are supposed to believe this???

This is pure spin setup on the fact that Les is the cheapest owner this side of Sterling. He has cash cows in Yao/TMac and a new arena practically publically funded for, but he will likely let another TE expire out yet again. Sure he'd love to go deep into the playoffs and maybe win a title....it'd be a nice bonus reward in spite of maintaining a miserly payroll and letting players leave via free agency and trading talent away to cut payroll and trading first rounders for non-guaranteed second rounders just to get out of their contracts and saying No to high priced coaches like Larry Brown and plastering Toyota in every possible angle the eye can hide in that practically publically funded arena. Rocket fans deserve better than this.

I think he signed too quickly.

If Arroyo was still available today, I think the Rox would offer him better than 4 at 4, but that's just a hunch.

Maybe GS would have chosen him instead of Fisher. Maybe SA would have chosen him over Barry.

He should have been more patient.

We don't, but Arroyo verbally committed before the Rafer Alston, Brent Barry and Derek Fisher signings...He didn't seem to test the FA market at all...just doesn't make sense to me.

you mean they put the name Toyota up a lot in the Toyota Center? man, what kind of world do we live in.

and our "miserly" payroll is right in the middle of the pack at 15th* and was i believe 9th the year before or before that, and even though we have "cash cow" yao ming, we've been damn near last in attendance two years running so that can't help things.

of course, none of this speaks to the fact that everyone and their mom is being horribly overpaid this offseason and there's no reason to overpay (cheap owner or not) and hurt future cap flexibility for someone who most likely will not even be the long term solution at pg.

*wow, new jersey's cap figure is $7M higher than ours for next season and that's after they let kmart walk for nothing because mutombo still counts for the cap. our $49M is pretty well spent at this point.

Utah will probably sign Mo Williams. The only possibliity of getting him is if he wants to leave to get more minutes on another team.

I've been saying this for years, and now finally others are starting to catch up. Les is a Cheap b*stard and CD is a r****ded Moron. If it was not for the luck of the lottery to get us Yao Ming which in turn led to T-Mac wanting to come to Houston, the Rockets would be the laughing stock of the League. Just to think that we could have had Posey instead of Pisskowski, Tay Prince instead of Snackbar, Larry Brown instead of van Gumpy makes me mad. And it's all because of stupidity and cheapness...

I really wish that I had the power to throw an "It's a Wonderful Life" type scenario at guys like this in which they live through being the GM of the Rockets for a dozen years or so to see where we'd be then. Somehow, I highly doubt we'd be better off.

So what did CD say? From all the posts, I can tell that we won't get anyone since we don't have the $$? I'm confused...

Basically, any players added to this team will be either by trade and/or a cheap contract after the dust settles (ie: Jim Jackson last year).

Why? She could just be very, very kinky.

I think the Rockets should trade for Damon Stoudamire, and hey if he doesn't work out, he'll come off the books next summer anyways. He would clear caproom for someone like Tony Parker, although that's probably a fantasy. A good one though....

    1 - Tony Parker
    2 - Tracy McGrady
    3 - Jim Jackson
    4 - Juwan Howard
    5 - Yao ming
