I was glad to hear that CD (& presumably Les too) views this as a competition. To a large extent I feel there's one candidate more qualified and proven than the others, so when the Rockets identify whomever as "their man all along" I'll probably be suspicious. I do believe Brown does want this done quickly, if for no other reason he's got to know his decision is going to a great extent determine how quickly a lot of other coaches become employed. I don't think he would have "flirted" with us for financial leverage, I don't believe he thinks CD's going anywhere. If this is a competition then it's Les' to lose, but more likely it was a done deal from the time Brown resigned.
From the format of CD talkin about the team and the riddles and vagueness, it reminds me of a certian BBS poster....
best news in this thread. I'm thrilled to know that the Chinese NT understands the importance of Yao being successful on both sides of the earth.
Did Dawson Spill the Beans? Dawson was on 610 am just a minute ago. The guy on there ask Dawson if the Rockets will have a coach in place like 7-10 days from now? Dawson said "We only have a 2nd round pick it's not like we have a 1st round pick AS OF YET" Then he went on about the search is still on and there's a lot of quality candidates.. But for him to say "AS OF YET" about a 1st round pick tells me there have been talks on the way about getting into the 1st round. Am I looking too hard into him saying as of yet?
My impression from that was CD was saying there's not as great an urgency for the Rockets to hire a coach that some teams may face because we don't have a #1 pick. The "as of yet" thing is just GMspeak for "anything can happen", and CD's seen a lot.
Of course, there is already a thread about CD's appearance on 610, but I guess it was too hard to spot.
Look I don't know how you all do things around here; but I was'nt looking for a certain thread, I heard something that was interesting to me and I do have the option to post it so I did without looking to see who was the first to post on a certain topic.
Dont look to much into what CD said. . . But Toronto and Chi-town are reportly shopping their picks. Unless the target is TJ ford a first round pick dosent do to much. aside from the big 3 Well everybody else is.
Same here! Folks like you and all the rest of you who post local info, links and re-caps that are in addition to the great work Clutch and the crew do are one of the things that help make this the best BBS anywhere. Lot's happening now, thank goodness... the bad taste of last season is getting easier to take. Let's hope they make the right moves. (got my appendages crossed)
It's really of topic but I heard it on 610 and I don't feel like starting another thread. Did anybody hear one of the 610 reporters mention Eddie Griffin going up to Westside to get in some practice today which consisted of his usuall 3 shots at the basket. The more I hear about this guy's lazyness the more I want him out of here. Wasted talent.
Well it's good that he is even practicing! At least he isn't out on te street...at least he even went to practice. But yeah...he is pretty disappointing. Once the new coach comes in, hopefully Eddie can turn around and change and play like he's worth 3 first round draft picks. Carroll Dawson seemed impressed with Larry Brown, but he also said he wants a coach who will be the coach LONG-TERM. That doesn't sound like Larry Brown.
pun intended? yeah... it's a waste, but if you look at his college numbers (only one year) a third of his shots came from behind the arc. wouldn't be an issue if he could knock them down consistently. work ethic is a problem. for all of those with "young j. o'neal" comparisons... i remember him being "wanting" to be a better player while with portland.
And oh yeah........did you see Kendrick Perkins? He looked good in the workout...we should draft him.
I heard the interview on 610, and Gummi did a good job of getting all the important info. I was a little disappointed though with what CD had to say. About the only new info I got from CD was that Yao might be doing some upper body workouts if the Chinese NT doesn't make him practice/workout twice a day. Maybe it was partially 610's fault for not asking the right questions or pushing CD in the right direction, but still, the interview was quite dull. CD isn't the most exciting personality, and I am quite fine with that. All I'd like to hear is something from him I can't find on the BBS or in the paper. Maybe a tidbit about what some of the coaches said in the interview, or admit they are going to interview someone else. He wouldn't even give a straight answer about Paul Silas. Anyway, thanks again Gummi for the recap. I'm just getting impatient and would like to get something worthwhile out of 610 if I'm going to waste time listening for the latest Rockets news. I should probably just stick to the board and find out all the news and scoops here. B
