If we "do not torture" - why are you against "outlawing" it?

Please explain this non-sequitor, Mr. Bush. Are we planning on torturing later?

Or are you simply lying to an oh-so-easily misled public?

    Wow.

We should base our policy and possible success in interrogation methods on television show. I'm tired of seeing people like the military intel officer who has had experience in interrogation saying things like information obtained from torture victims isn't usually reliable. Has that man even watched '24'?

If not he needs to get a clue.

If I am a reporter or anyone who is questioning Bush's stance on this, will keep asking the same question.... Please explain why you are against outlawing torture when you claim we do not torture? Why the objection? This is not something complicated.

It was obviously tongue in cheak, good Lord. I do think we should do everything in our power to make these prisoners uncomfortable... they have foiled terror plots and located Al Queda henchman thanks to the prisoners of war we've taken, so it is working. Have you see how our enemy treats are prisoners of war? No one gets in an uproar and calls for muslim change when they behead people on camera and throw it all over al jazerra... The problem with our world today is we don't want to "offend" anyone and be too politically correct, meanwhile the enemy is strapping C4 to themselves and blowingup hotels, restraunts and school houses.

Sure is, if he is against outlawing torture. Cant plead ignorance if he is the Commander in Chief and is unwilling to take actions for strict guildlines against torture.

    Try again.

Riiight. The President can control soldiers thousands of miles away on their own agendas. There are soldiers who murder, rape, rob and steal... so I guess that is his fault to? With that logic EVERY law that is broken by military personnel is his fault. Give me a break. Those soldiers KNEW it was wrong to do what they did and they did it anyway, an "anti-torture" law isn't going to stop it from happening.

I guess this is why Bush is against "anti-torture" law.

So, by your logic, if there is torture going on, the soldiers are doing it on their own agenda, and not being ordered to do so by superiors.

    Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I was trying to play along as well. I know that we shouldn't really model our policy off of a tv show. I was sure you did too.

I think people do certainly get in an uproar when the enemy beheads a prisoner. In fact we go after them and try to kill them as we should. We put a bounty on their head as we should.

I am not worried about not offending people. I am worried about condoning torture. We have gotten information by other means than torture. I am all for useing what works. Torture doesn't. It is also immoral, and I refuse to endorse lowering our nation to the level of dictators, and terrorists.

I don't think the problem is that we aren't trying to offend anyone, the problem is that we are only going after the symptoms. I am all for going after the symptoms and the other causes. I want a consistent, moral, and just policy. I think it will only help us wipe out the terrorists.

So you think there is a General over there saying "put panties on them" and "lead them around on leash." Why didn't the Abu'Graib soldiers rat out their superiors if they were ordered to do it? If they were ordered to do it they could have gotten out of jail time... the bottom line is they did it on their own. Was anyone in your family in Vietnam? My father and stepfather both served and have told me of the atrocities they saw our soldiers partake in, all without orders. To think that atrocities like that won't happen in any war is nieve.

You're entitled to my opinion, and I'm entitled to mine. And the one person I know who served in Vietnam and saw combat during his entire tour of duty told me of atrocities he saw.....some ordered by superiors and some on their own.

The bottom line is this...we will not know the truth about any alleged incident until the incident is investigated.

So that begs the question: Why does the US government try to stop independent investigations of things like this, as well as 9-11 and other parts of the "war on terror"? Think they're hiding something? My answer is yes.

Independent investigations? Kind of like the independent oil for food program?

Here's the moonshine jar, Luther. You need a pick-me-up.

Independent investigation meaning no oversight or interference from your idol-gods in the White House, whose modus operandi since day 1 has been to step on any investigation of anything anyone in the White House has ever done.

Svpernaut, the truth can set you free. Believe it.
