I guess I'll throw in T. Hardaway and Mihm.

Cat, does this list include players off the computer controlled teams? Can you pick any player off the computer controlled teams or just from 2 that you select?

YES, you can pick from the computer controled teams, and the list here does not include those players.

Isnt it painfully obvious who the first pick should be.

The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?

    KBM,

I guess you can put Oakley into the draft, cause he did start for you for a while.

    Crisco,

Yeah you can pick anyone off the computer controlled teams... problem is, there aren't many players on those teams, if any, that are better than the ones we are giving up.

Ok I guess VOR with Miles/Kucok and me who started 7 players regulary through the season and the playoffs are to blame. But we are not the ones who are using the system - I actually used my 7 rotating players as starters in the playoffs too - or wait a minute I didnt use Nash as a starter in the playoffs but I'm actually giving up the 2 players that started in my short playoff stint (Hill and Snow) while im keeping the other two starters (Howard and Nash) and of course my 3 stars (Mutombo, Iverson (traded), Marion).

What you have to consider is that this is something both me and VOR did (and others too) before we even knew it was gonna be a second season. We changed starters as the players had very simular stats, and hoped that maybe a new starter could get the team better production. Giving of any of these players for us wont have anything to say for the quality of the draft pool - but it gave us the flexibility to choose which players we wanted to build around for the future. This option is available to all - and I guess someone could start to take advantage of it by "tanking" by playing worse players in a starting position. This might even help even out the power in the league as it is only bad teams that can get help from this.

But just so everyone know: The two players I'm giving up to the pool - Tyrone Hill and Eric Snow - started for me in the beginning of the season and in the end of the season - and they also started most of the playoff games. I also think as a total they started more games than both Howard and Nash did. Also if you check my stats in the team rosters and stats thread you will find out that Howard and Hill had very simular numbers for me and the same did Snow and Nash have.

So will I start more than 5 players the upcoming season? I really hope so - as I hope I have the depth that gives me the flexibility to experiment on what different rosters gives me.

Will I use a lesser player to give him away in the draft? No - I dont see the point in abusing the rules that make this sim fun.

Do I hope that it is allowed to give any* player from these starters also next year? Yes. And I also think it is fair. I just did a trade that gave my team good depth by giving up a star (Iverson). Why should I be punished for opting for depth over a star? I think I actually helped this league by trading away my star-starter to a non-playoff team last year. The only pity was that it was in the west - depleting the east for another star player.

*) Note that you are not allowed to give up two players from the same spot even if they both are qualified as starters. I could not give up both Snow/Nash and VOR could not give up both Miles/Kucok, and I could not even give up both Hill/Howard as they didn't start frequently together even if they do play different positions. Hill (PF)/Howard (SF) - I could not give them up both as Howard started in Hills place.

I did not use a lesser know player so I could put him in the draft. FYI, the simulation itself had oakely playing PF and Antonio Davis playing center. I experimented with that lineup when I got Dirk. I wanted Antonio to backup both the PF position and center in the same way you played howard as a six man! This experiment, I might add, was well before I or anybody else learned that we had to put two starters in the draft.

Morris Peterson played small forward and Charles Oakley played power foward ALL YEAR.

Sorry kbm if my post sounded like an attack on you. It was the complete opposite i was trying to do. Defend all of us that used several starters and thus had Cat allow us to chose from to give up to the draft. Heck I also had Lynch as a as a starter for 15 games or so but did not even ask if I could put him into the draft as I do not want to cheat the system. Even Lynch produced numbers for, not that far from what Hill produced. I guesss if I asked Cat if I could put him into the draft he would allow me this in a weak moment. But I would not want to do it as he never started for me after the 3 round draft midseason last year.

I hope this rule is available next year - but I also hope that if for some reason we have players added mid-season that only players started frequently after this would be allowed added. I'm also for that we keep submitting only 2 players - I know this will lead to lesser players in the draft but you should a franchise and not have to boot most of your starters. Only giving up 2 players in the draft will also force players to try and trade themself better keeping the tradetalks busy. The same rule allowed me to opt for depth over stars - why would I do that if trading away my star this season would force me to give up that depth next season. This is what I still plan to do if I can fix my trade misunderstanding.
