Saturday is partly cloudy between 51 and 61, which is perfect for outdoor ball in December. Look below for the location! Lets meet up there around 2:00, warm up and start playing around 2:30. This should be the last change. Is everyone that said they could make it comfortable with this location? From Heypartner's description it sounds like we can play full court and even if it's crowded we can just play as a team against non cc.net people. B
B - Thanks for getting all of this together. I forgot that I have a XMAS party around 5pm so I may have to make my visit short, but I will come. Is there anyway we could start a little earlier? Maybe 1 PM? If not that is cool, I will just play for an 1hr or so. How long where you guys planning on playing?
I will probably be there from 1:00-4:00, go home and get cleaned up, get a bite to eat and wait in line to get in early for the basketball game. B
Latest news: Heyparnter and Ron413 are posting direction to the outdoor courts on Rice. If you are going please post to let us know how many to expect. B
sorry guys for any confusion earlier. B wants me to post the Rice court to make it easier for Grega. here's the map of campus. The orange dot is the court. There is a tennis court and a bball court side by side. The numbers around the map are Entrance numbers. The numbers are posted on signs along the perimeter of campus. Notice the key to the left of the map for parking. the blue cars and orange cars designate visitor parking (blue is pay-as-you-use; orange is free). Technically, you cannot park anywhere else, but on weekends you can. The lot right next to the courts will be fine. note: All parking on campus has recently been gated. I have no idea if that lot will be gated or not. If it is, just turn around and exit campus and park at the church across Rice Blvd right at the Rice/Sunset fork. The lot looks to be Entrance #16. It is off of Rice Blvd right near where Sunset and Rice Fork. Directions from Main St are to turn at Sunset Blvd and take the fork left so that you are keeping the campus hedges on your left. Via bus or bike, just enter at the main campus entrance (Entrance #1) and follow the main entrance towards the big admin building with the huge arch. You should be able to see the courts on the right, across a big open field. Directions from I-59 are to go towards Compaq Center if coming from the north, and to pass Compaq Center headed downtown if coming from the southwest. Exit Shephard/Greebriar and go South (this exit is the on the downtown side of the Kirby exit). Taking Greenbriar South (map shows Greenbriar), you will intersect Rice Blvd, turn left. You will see the stadium. Now just look at the Entrance numbers to find #16.
Heypartner, thanks for the all the help! Also take a look at http://www.rice.edu/maps/visitors.html for more directions if you need them. B
Thanks HeyPartner and B, I also heard they are having some construction on 59 this weekend so there could be some traffic for those who might make it late. Hope to see ya'll there
Thanks guys, Rice is great. B - I will probably show up around 1-1:30pm - see ya there. I used to play ultimate frisbee on the soccer fields by the stadium, until they kicked us off.
I just drove by Rice where the outside court is, and indeed it is Lot #16. It is called the Abercrombie Lot close to where Cullen Hall is and there are signs with numbers that make it obvious to drivers off of Rice Blvd. That dot on the map is exactly the spot. Anyways, there are bars protecting the parking spaces for Rice faculty and students during the week but maybe they won't be down for the weekend. If they are, just park as close as possible to the Abercrombie Lot off of Rice Blvd. between Greenbriar and Main. http://dacnet.rice.edu/maps/space/index.cfm?location=lota
Damn. I am already lost. I know where the Rice Campus is, however I am not too familiar with it. I am studying(?) the map Hard.
Just make it to the campus and ask somebody where to go. If you get lost I will give you my cell and you can call me and I will find ya!
I am hoping to be able ot make it. Anybody know what kind of crowd is normally there on the weekends & level of competition?
Kam, ask anyone were the Jones Tennis Courts are. The courts are more popularly known as tennis courts not bball courts.
I'm sure we are going to have quite a variety of talent from couldn't even make the 6th grade B team to possible future pro (or at least directly related to a pro). I have no idea what the crowd will be like, but we should have a good amount of cc.net people there. I'm going early incase we have to call next to get on the court. B
How old are yall and what are ya'lls height.. Im afraid I might get clocked around out there. lol Can any of ya'll dunk? Not me.
