His health has never been reliable. I think most realizes knew this last injury to his foot was the nail in the coffin and unhitched their wagons then. Yao was never and is never going to be that presence after this latest string of injuries.

So he goes down AGAIN. Welcome to, well a long effin time ago. I've mentally moved on format the prospect of Yao seriously contributing to the team.

Not Andy alone, same as Gortat, I'd move Martin for Andy but something else has to be added probably from a 3rd team.

I purposed a deal in the CLee trade thread...

Rox get Andy, Bulls get CLee and Cavs get Taj Gibson/JJ

I think that would work for all involved but some tweaks might need to be made.

This only works because they are elite on defense, they literally had 4 elite defenders at 4 positions, and one average defender.

our 3 "stars" that you talk about are all below average to horrific on defense, good luck with that.

Agreed. We'd have to trade Brooks for someone that played very good defense at some position. I think we could make it with Scola, Martin, one Battier/Artest-level defender, plus another couple of pretty good defenders.

We're not shooting for the 8th seed. We're shooting for the 5th seed, and developing our young'ns while we are doing it. The genius of Morey.

I want to get the Spurs in the 1st round and beat them. How sweet would that be?

I'd say they had 1 elite defender in Ben Wallace, two excellent defenders in Sheed and Prince, one above average defender in Billups, and one average defender in Rip. They played elite team defense, anchored by their insane interior defense.

It is apparent you do not understand how championship teams are built. Name the last championship team that got there by tanking. Name the last team that got there by getting rid of all veteran talent. There is a reason those teams stay in the lottery. You need a team of balance and with a winning culture. Young players that don't earn there time, and are not surrounded by veteran presences end up in the garbage. Look at the Celtics, look at the Lakers, the Spurs, etc... In the past 15 years teams have kept their most valuable pieces unless they are getting better players, and have been in position to pounce on good trade opportunities.

    When will you learn?

I would have screamed Moreys ears off all day and night had he allowed that to happen. We are not selling away Rockets parts unless its for young good players. Idiots think we are gonna give away Kevin Martin for abackup role playing scrub because Morey has been trading starters or draft picks for role players lately. Maybe they think he is dumb now? Lets see? Potential allstar type player for backup center Magic? Jeezus. We must be looking real bad right now if thats what they proposed?

Naw, when they won the title Sheed and Prince were still elite defenders.

The Spurs tanked to get Duncan. We tanked to get Hakeem. Let's not act like tabking can't work if you land that elite superstar player that is hard to get. Clearly the players on our roster aren't hard to get...Morey is always acquiring the types of dudes that we have. Elite talent is hard to acquire.

After a night to think this over I think Morey maybe should have gone through with the deal.

Courtney Lee is a better option at SG because of his defense and 3 pt shooting, it would have freed up alot of salary giving the Rockets room to sign a max deal and we'd have a legit center who can run in transition for the next 4-5 years.

Plus I still think we could find a superstar at either SG/SF with all the trade pieces we have with Brooks and the expirings.

Who's available in free agency that's worth a max deal?

This is a hard question because J-rich is also a pretty good scorer like Martin however Martin is the perfect complement to Dwight (D+reb) and Nelson/Arenas (clutch). It would have been a great trade for Orlando simply because they can get Martin without trading for Hedo, and they still get to keep Pietrus

    Dwight
    Bass
    Pietrus
    Martin
    Nelson/Arenas

However for the Rox it would have been horrible because KM is performing phenomenally right now.

I thought the Magic wanted CLee back? Why not offer him for Gortat?

I wouldn't worry about Martin's feelings. Martin will do nicely for himself around the league. I'm sure a number of contenders would not mind adding him to their teams for added offensive boost. If traded to a contender, I figure he'll get a ring faster than the Rockets would.

The Spurs tanked by holding slightly injured players out for one season, not by trading players away. The worse case scenario for them was to have one season go down the drain. The next season all their guys would be back and healthy.

The Rockets weren't a great team in 83 from what I remember.

That is not true, David Robinson was hurt, which put them in the draft lottery. They did not panic, and unload Robinson, Elliot, Del Negro etc.. They got lucky in the lottery to jump and get Duncan. Duncan went into a team that was in position to win. If he had gone into a decimated team, who knows how they would have ended up. The 83 Rockets just were not very good. It took them 12 years to win a championship. How many times could they have blown it up and tanked. Our championship cornerstones would have been gone.
