Same reason people bet on sporting events. It's fun and the payout can be large when you parlay. There is nothing to stop them except if it were found out that Dwight was having friends go gamble on him signing, he could be kicked out of the league for good.

They must really need the practice. It was a workout or something. At least that's how it was tweeted.

It's interesting that the Hawks are +1000 while the Warriors and Nets are both +800. They must not think CP3 teaming up with him is very likely. Warriors and Nets would have to be sign and trade.

Wild speculation that he's being traded to Cleveland. I wouldn't expect anything different from slestack, ha.

Here's the link that references sources who told SheridanHoops.com. Should be as accurate as these sources that know Dwight Howard:

If he gets traded to Cleveland, that would bone the last FA possibility LA has, and give Lebron one hell of a team to go home to (and yeah, they'd still be miles under the cap)

Love would be a free agent in the 2015/16 season and I believe that's when Kyrie Irving will be getting his max deal too right? Unless they want to take paycuts to play in Cleveland, this would be difficult under CBA. No?

Lebron is Dwight Howard's only hope at winning championships so he better come to LA for Dwight's sake.

Gilbert's net worth has risen something stupid like $2b in the last year, I'm not sure the luxury tax vs championship would really concern him at this point.

I'm sure any Love trade would include Waiters and Thompson as well as the #1, but a lineup of Varejao (if he could get healthy), Love, Lebron, some guy like Tony Allen and Irving would be one amazing team.

What about all these other CBA rules that only seem to apply to the Lakers?

They'd be able to form that team under the cba rules relatively easily, it would all come down to Gilbert paying the luxury tax when Kyrie is extended.

They would have three guys on their roster with roughly $60 million in salary though. So depending on how strategic they are with the rest of the team, the apron rules will be affecting their ability to bring in key role players.

The cba totally screws over mid range players. You're either one of the max players that eat up the entire cap, or you have to settle for a filler type salary. Billy hunter screwed the players union over. It also sets up older player who can still ball to take lower salaries because teams will lean towards a young player that could play longer. Most importantly, if small market teams rule the nba, the tv ratings for the finals will resemble what they are whenever the spurs are in the finals.

Well, there is some truth to what you say.

I think the current CBA is far too complex to make it a good governing document. You really dont get a sense of what its trying to achieve and it seems like a patchwork of rules that grew from the previous CBA, all implemented at varying times.

Either party can opt out of the current CBA after the 2016/17 season which I fully expect will happen. Hopefully they'll learn from the mistakes of this one and make a far easier governing document and a far more equitable one too.

LeBron won't go to LA, because he's not going to damage his image again. He left for Miami. He either stays there or returns to Cleveland. He's not going to be a Laker. You cannot get every single player. You can get a lot. But not every one.

There's usually a (low) limit to how much you can bet on these things.

I don't think going to the Lakers would damage his image at this point. If he failed to win a ring in Miami and then he jumped ship to pair with Howard on the Lakers, then it would be a disaster of the highest magnitude. But now that he's cleared that hurdle, he can pretty much go anywhere and call it a product of the new CBA.

I'm a Lakers fan, but I really thought Lebron would have been best suited for the New York Knicks. He's an east coast guy and Madison Square Garden was made for him. Plus, the Knicks aren't like the Bulls or Lakers that have players they need to live up to. Ewing was over-rated in my opinion and they had Willis Reed and Walt Frazier, but Lebron could have been the logo for that franchise. Nike would be all over it for retro sneaker versions of the Lebron X and all that. But that was then and this is now. The Lakers have the means to sign him in 2014 and it definitely will be one of his options to consider. I actually think it's a darkhorse option that Dwayne Wade will bolt to the Lakers so he can get back to being one of the elite players again without having to share stats with Lebron.

Where do you get $60m from? it'd be more like $50m, you're only paying $60m if you're talking max contract pre current cba players. Love will only be on mid $15m, Kyrie will be below $15m, Lebron ~$20m range, if you actually built a team of only new cba maxes, you could get it done for near $45m, they'd get a year or two with the full mle. The apron doesn't really mean much for them, since in a practical sense it really only hurts you if you're trying to s&t a star player.

Long term having small market teams win would service the nba best, because it would grow viewership in the rest of the country, much like it has for the nfl, the Spurs though were unbelieveably god awful boring to watch, Miami is the 16th sized market, Oklahoma is 45th, meanwhile the Miami v OKC series had nearly as much viewership as LA (#2) vs Boston (#7) despite it being a relatively uncompetitive 4-1, people watch stars.

As for why Lebron didn't go to NY, shouldn't it be obvious? his day job is basketballer, not actor, not stock broker, he went to the best basketball situation.
