I find myself in a weird position where it looks like I'm bashing the Texans. I do not want to do that. I think they are in a great position. I only scoffed at the idea of "dynasty."

I understand where you are coming from. This board needs perspective at times.

Dynasty my ass. Go ask the Chargers how easy it is to become a dynasty. Oh.

no worries . . last year, the thing would have been "win a playoff game?" - heck you never been. bla, bla baa.

We have a complete team,..A top 2 defense. The best RB, a HOF WR, promising young WR's showing us stuff (Jean, K. Martin). A good QB with a impressive showing in preseason game 3. Good coaching, the list goes on..Hard to come up with a valid reason why the team isn't built for a potential Dynasty and IF we had Schaub last year in the playoffs, it would have probably been, "Superbowl dynasty?" - heck you barely got there. Everyone has the right to a strong opinion about the team but we shall see and as a true fan, I'm going to enjoy the ride. Can't wait!

Bobby Mac was on 610 today, talking about this(among other things).

    A few tidbits:

**We had an exciting finish(last year). We strengthened our team. Exciting year ahead and looking forward to it. It's great to see it all come together. You can't predict what the year will bring but we have a good ball club and I think the results will be quite pleasing.

**When we(they) brought Gary in, we(they) had a rookie GM and rookie coach. I wouldn't recommend that. They both have grown in their jobs. They're much more accomplished than when they started. Gary is more decisive. He always had the knowledge and grasp of the game and players. Also, he emphasizes and wants everyone to be accountable. He feels like he's succeeded when other players hold each other accountable.

**We make character an issue when we draft players. Things will happen. If you have a youngster in college with issues when he has no money, how do you think he'll respond when in the NFL, w/ money, & people chasing him around? We stay away from players with problems. It's hard to catch a ball from behind bars.

**I've learned through the process. We look at many characteristics and traits. I didn't pay enough attention to passion. David Carr was a wonderful athlete and had tremendous ability but what was missing--he didn't have that real passion for the game. I didn't recognize that. That's what you have to have. That's what drives the players. I'm so proud of the way we play defense. They play like it's their last play. When they get tired, someone can come in and give them relief, allow them to catch their breath, and come back in. All of our players play hard and we get great results.

**We're a balanced team. We can run & throw the ball. ST is performing well and our D is one of the best. We have 3 good teams. We have depth and are developing more depth. Players will get injured. That's what you have to have--durability. Some players play through injury, others, if it's not perfect, they don't go. (Then said something along the lines of they don't go after those players or those players aren't in their plans or something like that.)

**I'm not on that committee but we made what we think is a fair offer and hopefully they(refs) come to that realization. The real refs will be back. It's a matter of when. ... Says he's comfortable going into week one w/ replacement refs, although the guys out are better than the guys in. ... I'm looking forward to getting them back. I'm sure they'll be back before long.

AJ will be in the HOF when it's all said and done. Go back to hating on Schaub.

I think he's going to struggle to get in - unless he's a beast on a championship team and even then....

Until they find a way to get Cris Carter in, I don't see how AJ gets an invite. He's not getting in before Moss, Owens or Fitzgerald, for sure. Megatron will, on his current pace, also pass him by. And never underestimate the fat, lazy white sportswriters' love of a Wes Welker. And you still have guys like Harrison and Holt behind the current longjam of Carter, Tim Brown, Andre Reed, etc.

AJ has a lot of catches and a lot of yards in an era in which passing numbers blew-up; frankly, there are probably going to be a lot of guys with big cumulative numbers, making it harder for him to stand-out. Sowithout rings and with so many fewer TDs...... I think his candidacy is going to be difficult.

Note the new name - thanks.

And I don't doubt AJ at all. He's an exceptionally good WR and, FYI, my lone fantasy keeper this year. But he will need, minimum, four more years at his career pace to approach Carter's cumulative numbers (receptions and yards – he’s not going to get anywhere close to TDs) and most of us think his best days are probably behind him.

So detail how he leaps Cris Carter to make the HoF? Especially when he's going to be in/near the same class as Moss, Owens, Harrison, Welker, Fitzgerald plus Carter, Brown, Holt, not to mention Wayne, CJ, Jennings, White – and we still have even more up-and-coming talents: Cruz, Green, Jones….

There are a ton of great WRs already waiting in the wings and even more still on the field. Unless he wins a championship, and plays well doing so, I think he’s going to struggle to stand out. Just this week, I was reading an SI piece on diva WRs in which they said:
That’s not meant to be definitive – but seems egregious he wasn’t mentioned in that category (he practically *invented* it) and at least serves as a warning that he’s maybe not the first name off of tongues not located in Houston.

    Great perspective.
If I said the exact same thing, I would be labeled as a hater. Sigh...

So long as you admit that you have been wrong all along when we wreck this season and beyond.

I hear what you are saying, but I think you are underestimating Dre's past production and potential. also when you talk about Moss, Owens, Fitzgerald ,...it seems you are putting Dre behind these 3 when the margin of evaluating who will end up better is slim. give me Dre over Moss and Owens in their prime. Fitzgerald is maybe a coin toss. Just my opinion.

So now that leave Carter as your litmus test. Carter played 16 years, with years 15 and 16 being duds. however, Carter's 9th thru 14th years were his best years

In fact the first 9 years, Dre has 9656 yds, 52 TD with a 13.7 yard avg.
    First 9 yrs. of carter .. 7204 yds, 66 TD with a 13.91 avg.

Note that after 8 years, Carter had only 1 TD more
.....based on the first 8 to 9 years, Dre proved much better in production with no help. And if he didn't get hurt and miss so much time last year, the yards would show even greater dominance in Dre's favor and the TD would be a lot closer to about the same

based on what Dre has done and shown for his first 9 years, it should be worded "until they find a way to get ANDRE in, I don't see how Carter gets the invite"

However, Carter had very consistent production on a five year stretch from 95 to 2000
He averaged 1151 yards and about 11 TD with Carter's last 2 years of 2001 and 2002 , a fail for the most part

Andre is already ahead of Carter at their same times in their careers, if he even comes close to 1100 yards and 10 to 11 TD for the next 5 years he clearly , clearly is ahead... Both Carter and Andre were on better teams during years 8 plus...and I feel this can only assure Andre of rebounding good production but the health has to hold for the next 5 . A Superbowl would be great as well

Unless things go really wrong this year, Matthews will be off the board long before we draft.

Dynasty is a bad word for how Texans are built. Texans Look built to have continued success with many shots at competing if last season wasn't a fluke.

Definitely. I don't fancy the dynasty word so much but I completely get the idea that we are built to be successful for the next 5 years easy and hopefully a trip or two to the big show. doesn't mean it is a guarantee but I can' t think of too many teams I'd trade places with right now

If you put Andre Johnson with Boldin in his prime, and Kurt Warner, he definitely would have the same as Fitzgerald if not best numbers.
Even during the best years of Arizona, Andre was still higher than Fitz in WR rankings.

so I dont think you can put Fitzgerald over AJ, I dont think Welker is going to be in the HOF not before AJ.
Welker, Fitz, Owens, Moss they dont have a ring, but AJ needs one to get in the HOF?

and thats all i was simply trying to state. I did use the hollowed "dynasty" word but all i really meant was they are built to be a competitive team over the next 6 years and a couple SBs (appearance/win)
