Honestly, LA is the best spot for Ron. I can't imagine Mike Brown having to deal with BOTH Arteat AND Shaq in the same lockerroom. Phil Jackson, on the other hand, can help Artest perform. If I were the Rockets, I'd be working with the Lakers, Ron and Ariza to work on a S&T. Probably give each of the players a slight pay raise over the MLE (making sure, say, Rockets offer to Ariza is a little better than, say, Cleveland's), and each team gets to save their MLE for another need. Should be a win-win situation (unless the teams actually think that each of these guys is worth the MLE, but NOT ONE CENT MORE, which would be very strange).
This hurts. I really liked Artest as a Rocket. I was looking forward to seeing him on the court next year. Now... well let's wait and see.
who cares about ron artest. I just find it funny that once he got here there were all these bogus reports about is houston having locker room problems blah blah blah. There was no trouble with the media until he showed up. Ron is gone so what. He didn't do anything here anyway. He wasn't the Ron Artest that we saw. Good ridance. We were suppose to have 2 shut down defenders. I found it funny how we still only had 1. Every guy Ron guarded just went right by him. Hmmmm some great defender. He use 2 be good but the past 2 1/2 years his defense has slipped.
This is great, the rockets and lakers can hammer out an Artest-Ariza deal using both of their rights. After that, we still have the MLE to use on a center (Zaza) and our 2nd round picks. It allows both the rockets and lakers to keep their MLEs and give bigger deals to Artest and Ariza. Everyone wins!
Hopefully it turns out the Lakers can't afford both Artest and Odom, so they change their minds and sign and trade Ariza for the slightly cheaper Battier instead.
Stop calling Artest a traitor. Morey obviously doesn't want to lock him up long term. Blame Yao's injury. What good is Ron Artest without Yao or TMac? Think people
Why would LA do it? Artest clearly want to go to LA and is willing to accept the MLE to be there. Why would LA want to pay him more knowing that?
who cares if Lakers win, we are not in competition with them anymore. We are fighting with Minnesota, Memphis, etc. for ping pong balls in the lottery. LA is fighting with Portland, Cleveland, Orlando, Boston, SA, etc. for the title.
Don't know if that was a joke or not but Artest cannot guard Roy. Hell Artest can't guard anybody anymore that has a quick first step. Lakers should have gone with Ariza imo.
Oh really? Well, when that something special comes up, please let me know. I'm not seeing anything right now. I was so ready for this off-season, but Yao's injury had it all completely going down the toilet.
Because it means that they get to keep their MLE to try and sign someone else. They might not have anyone else in mind - but what a luxury having that cash sitting around just in case - sure beats the veterans minimum... And why wouldn't we do a S&T for an amount equal to the MLE? If that's what both players are looking at get anyhow... makes perfect sense?
I agree that the Lakers would be better off keeping Ariza then adding Artest. But Ariza does not want to re-sign with the Lakers for the MLE.

The last 14 yrs have proven that. Just like I told you. Ron does not care about the money. Here is a quote from him saying he would play for free and that he does NOT care about the money. Not saying LA isn't dealing, but str8 from Ron. "I don't really care about the money," Artest said. "I'll play there for nothing. ...
