Morey is stupid that only offer one year contract to Artest. Rockets could first sign him, and then trade another good player. Now, we get nothing from Artest!!!! Honestly, one year contract is really sucks for Artest-type player.
Assuming we let McGrady expire and he's ready to play by the first reg. season game, I'm sure we will sign someone but heres the lineup: PG: Brooks, Lowry SG: McGrady, Taylor, Barry SF: Battier, Budinger, White PF: Landry, Hayes, Cook C: Scola, Dorsey I think Morey is looking to trade some of our shooting guards or small forwards. We don't look too great. Hopefully Morey can pull something off.
we couldnt at least offer him the MLE?? now we'll be lucky to even get ariza for the Full MLE..and hes a downgrade offensively..slight upgrade defensively i really dono what they were thinking..
The mistake was the fans thinking there was actually any heat there to begin with. After ron went up to Kobe all these fans acted like Ron really had beef with kobe and genuinely hated him, but time and time again they've both said there's nothing there but competitiveness int eh heat of the moment and they are actually friends..
As for the news today, forget you Ron Artest. Signing for $18 million for three years? Really? I wouldn't care if it was to the Cavs, but the LAKERS? After that series we had with them? I could see it coming, but didn't want to believe it. Artest has been in LA since we lost to them. Hell, I even saw him there last week and was wondering why he was still in LA. But $18 million for three years? We couldn't offer him that, instead of just the one year deal? Morey has disappointed this off-season. Amazing how one player can ruin an ENTIRE team's offseason. If the report had came out that Yao Ming had recovered or was recovering well, Ron Artest would probably be signing with the Rockets.
If Ariza signs, I'm pretty sure Battier is on the way out as part of a trade. :/ We are in transition right now. Don't know if it's a good thing or bad thing.
you guys are funny.all of you loved artest and wanted him to stay more than tmac who has been loyal all these years. anyways, artest going to la for 18m/3 yrs? we all knew he wanted 10-12m per year and a long contract but instead he settled for the mle for 3 yrs? you know what i think? it's what i said before, he felt INSULTED with what morey offered him. DM offered him a 1yr, probably 8-10m contract (hell, maybe even lesser). so he goes to the team he knows he can get a ring and would kick rockets ass everytime. he did it for spite. he didnt do it for money because cmon, there are teams out there who'd give at least 8m, even for 5yrs. cleveland looks pretty good now with shaq and lebron and their fa movements. like i said before in the other thread. what morey did was insulting. the dude gave you his best performance, pushed you out of the 3rd round and took the lakers to 7 games and you offer him 1 yr? that's friggin insulting. morey sucks at handling people/negotiations. sometimes it works (landry) especially when doing trades (scola, artest for bjax/greene,alston for lowry). but clearly wont work everytime. he was lowballing artest. and he's also going after gortat half assed. he was hoping his gimmick (those emails) would work with gortat, and he'd sign for part of the mle. but gortat didnt bite. and now, we're offering ariza the full mle. this i dont understand. why didnt we just offer gortat the full mle, and then SnT artest for ariza. we couldve signed artest for 10m, and we couldve gotten ariza + fillers (e.g. farmar)
We can't resign ron based on the assumption that we'll find a take for him, doing it would be plain stupid...plus ron's got the final say on this not houston. We lost all our leverage after Yao went down, why would ron want to stay with a non-contender? He's being the main guy before, he's made lots of money before, he wants to win now, and LA is his best shot.
Morey can't sign him for more than one year,,, Morey wants to sign one of the big free agents in 2010,, and in my opinion I don't blame morey, I think if artest want more than one year, screw him, he alread signed with his f***** ass kobe and his los angles fakers....F U C K Him
Don't know who said it, but this should remind all of us that rivalries are for FANS. When players jump from the BoSox to Yankees, Dodgers to Giants, Lakers to Celtics, Broncos to Raiders, etc., we want to be disgusted and lash out at them. In actuality? Those rivalries don't carry the same cache or importance at all to most. It has to do with opportunity- opportunity for more money, playing time, championships, etc. Look at it that way for Artest. Who do YOU think has a better chance to win a title next year- Houston or LA? Unfortunately not H-town. Who is offering him a longer deal? I don't know for sure, but if Houston was only offering one year, then it's LA. Which city offers better opportunities for his wacky personality and thirst for the limelight? Hollywood again. I think there is a lot of outrage in here about this decision, but a good chunk of it is frustration with the Yao situation, and going from playoff success to possible lottery again based on our injury situations.
How in the world does this work? Seriously, at any point during last year's Finals, was anyone telling themselves, "damn, the Lakers really need Ron Artest(notes)" ?!? Apparently, for whatever reason, the Lakers are close to a deal with Ron Artest. And it makes no sense. The triangle offense demands a presence that doesn't hold onto the ball. It's an exacting thing that asks for quick decisions and smart resolutions. Why Ron Artest, in any form, would have a place in this championship-driven mess? It boggles the mind. The Lakers don't need him. His off-court palatables hardly matter. The Laker offense begs for players whose hands don't stick to the ball, and Ron's hands stick to the ball like no other. He's the wrong idea. He's a wasted face. He's the wrong choice. Let that sink in. He's the wrong choice. The Lakers, as presented during June of 2009, had no flaws. Honestly, not a single flaw, outside of defending point guards. Artest, as great as he is, solves absolutely nothing. He's a fine player, and everyone knows his name, but the Lakers don't need him. He'll spin the radio chat show fodder funk to no end, but that means absolutely nothing. He's a defensive-minded small forward heading toward a team with small forward depth and a good defensive history. The Lakers don't need Ron Artest. It's a pity that his talents don't mind that apogee. Related: Ron Artest http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ba...t=ArdrMs71W0G4678Rot9x3nc5nYcB?urn=nba,174475
Artest was never suppossed to go to the Rockets...he's been wanting to go to the Lakers for a while now. It's not surprising and I'm not mad at him at all. He helped get us out of the first round and for that I thank him. I'm sure Morey will come up with something for this upcoming season or next season.
