Did a search but didn't find this article posted but an article on Sportlines has Mario Williams ranks #6 in the top 50. Looks like he is getting some pub in the national markets. 6. Mario Williams, DE, Houston Texans: Williams is making the Texans proud for passing on Reggie Bush and Vince Young to take this pass rusher. He might have been the league's best defensive player in the final eight weeks of 2007. http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/10877567
Wow, whoever wrote this list obviously doesn't watch or follow the Steelers. Roethlisberger behind Carson Palmer? Polamalu behind Ed Reed and in the "Just Missed" column?! No Casey Hampton or Willie Parker? I think i'm gonna go vomit.
Nice to see some respect, also: 26. Andre Johnson, WR, Houston Texans: Injuries limited him last season, but Johnson is one of the best when he's on the field. The Texans were a different team without him last season.
Mario Williams is the 6th best player in the NFL? I don't think so. Talk to me when he puts up 15 sacks this season. I know he had a breakout half of the season last year, but there is no way he should be that high up YET.
One whole extra sack and you'll revisit your opinion? I'm with you though. I think the media's been r****ded about the whole Mario/VY/Bush thing, but he shouldn't be this high. YET.
I think he meant, if Mario put back to back 14+ season, then he'll consider him a top ten player. I agree that would make hiim legit, and put him in the elite; if he can do what he did in the last 8 weeks, the whole 08-09 season, THEN people can start hugging his nuts.
Very true, but I'd honestly replace Mario with DeMeco from what they've shown so far. Glad to see Mario get some love but the 6th best player in the NFL, soon but not yet IMO.
I like Mario, but he shouldn't be put up in this high of a pedestal until he proves his worth. If he puts up a Pro Bowl year this season, I'd say he's well on his way to being the NFL's premier pass rusher. But he isn't there yet, that is all I'm saying.
I don't disagree with that. To be fair, though, he had a Pro Bowl type year in 07. I just get this feeling that, not only is he going to do it again, he's going to put up some ridiculous numbers...somewhere close to 20 sacks. Between the 2nd half of last season and the reports out of OTA's, I'm a little giddy thinking about the damage he's going to do to NFL qb's this coming season.
Mario aint that good. But at least he's up here. Vince Young is down here hanging out with shirtless dudes in the offseason. Reggie Bush gets Kardashian at least, I guess.
He had an All-Pro 2nd half of the year after doing next to nothing the first year and a half of his career. Show me a little bit of consistency before you proclaim him the 6th best player in the NFL.
Wouldn't "somewhere close to 20 sacks" be a single season record? Isn't the sacks record like 18 in a season?
