Nevermind, you can only use the stretch provision on contracts signed under the new CBA. Thus, Houston would either have to:

    a) refuse to have Turkoglu included in Howard trade
    b) find a third team to take him
    c) expensive buy out

Here's a scenario for you. Gut the team to take back Howard + Turk, with Howard promising to exercise his player option. Go after D-Will in free agency, who has stated he's willing to sign for less to play for a contender. If he signs, great; Howard will probably sign too and you can build around those two long-term.

If D-Will won't sign, it gets more complicated. Howard exercises his player option instead of signing an extension, and the contingency plan is to go after a stew of veterans who still have something in the tank: Steve Nash, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett--guys who will play for less for a(nother) ring. Make one big championship run in 12-13 and after that Howard leaves and you tank for a top 5 pick.

True, but won't happen. GS aint gone trade Curry and Monta, they looking more like Klay,Monta,Picks,Udoh. Rockets on the other hand can out beat the Warriors by trading Martin, Twill, Dragic or Johnny, Pick, Rights to D-mo, Hill, Bud. <---Melo Type Deal.... Get It? -BKJr

GS only has a better package if they will include Curry. Monta isn't that great. He's the same level player as Kevin Martin and he's worse than Kyle Lowry.

Curry blows away anything we can offer, but will GS trade him? Once again, I doubt it. I think they would only trade him if Howard promised to sign an extension.

Also GS's draft pick is not much better because they're going to shoot up the standings once they get Howard. Knicks pick is probably going to be #15. GS with Howard is back end of the lottery at best.

I really hope we get Dwight Howard. Do you think we have a great chance to get Dwight Howard? I think Houston is the only team that is willing to trade anybody on the roster for Howard.

Oh, actually, GS doesn't even have a draft pick this year. Derp. Unless they include Curry there is no way they can beat us for Howard IMO. No draft picks this year + deal centered on Monta Ellis = no deal.

If he's traded it's Houston. If Warriors add Curry or Nets add M.Brooks and Lopez we are ****ed -BKJr

Curry and his glass ankles has plummeted in trade value this year. He is not the A-prospect he was last year.

Wow, then thats leave only Houston as a best rental team for Howard. Good news. I hope Morey is working hard all day and all night until next Thursday for this to happen.

D-Mo should be off the table in any renting Howard deal.

Which btw I think is bad move. I'm not comfortable trading assets just so we can a get a couple of more wins this season, and make a semi-deep run in the playoffs this season... its just a very short sighted view by the organization and anyone supporting this idea...

    Your thinking is severely flawed.
If GS had so many good prospects and blue-chip youth talent, then answer me this riddle... why are they 15-21 and sitting with the third worst record in the conference?

Curry appears to have glass ankles. He is also a B-tier star even if healthy. If Orl wasn't willing to gamble on Bynum, what makes you think they will gamble on a guard with chronic problems?
Also, Ellis is similar to Kevin Martin in that he is a near-allstar caliber player with severe flaws.
Their better prospects have not shown any more than our youth. Patterson's value is > Udoh. Most, if not all GMs would probably take Patpat. Klay is a knockdown shooter that does not create well for himself. You can find those types for a dime-a-dozen in the league. His value is probably similar to Parsons, but Chandler has that bargain contract which makes him more valuable.
As for the pick, I don't think GS even has a first rounder this season.

At some point, you have to go beyond what the media perceived and eye-test value of the players and go with how much they have contributed to actual wins in the NBA.

If the rent-a-Dwight is down to Golden State and us, I am absolutely positive that Morey can offer a better package than the Warriors.

I would also like to add that Howard wants to be the focal point of the team. If he were to go to Dallas or the lakers he would not be the focal point. Kobe owns the lakers, Dirk owns dallas. Even if dirk is older I'm not sure how attractive it is for howard to not be the last guy announced when they are calling the lineups before the game. New Jersey doesn't seem to have the trade assets to cash in. I think the only real competitor we have is Golden State.

He doesn't play any defense. Most of his perceived value comes from GS playing him 40 minutes a game (literally) the last couple seasons and giving him 20+ shot attempts. His PER the last three seasons: 16.7, 18.6, and 18.8. And remember, PER overrates offense and underrates defense--Ellis is a bad defender just like Martin.

    Martin's PER the last three seasons: 17.0, 21.4, 17.5.

My guess at Morey's rental offer to Orlando would be Martin, Dragic, Dalembert, the Knicks pick and the DMo pick, for Dwight. Doubt if Orlando would bite, though.

Although it never gets talked about, I think Orlando and Atlanta would be the best trade partners. Something like Horford and either Pachulia or Marvin Williams for Dwight. Dwight is an Atlanta native, and could team up with his best buddy Josh Smith and Joe Johnson to form a true title contender.

If they trade with the Hawks Horford, Pachulia and/or Marvin Williams will not get it done. Hawks would have to give up Josh Smith, Al Horford , 1st, and Jeff Teague, but it wouldnt happen because Howard would refuse to opt-in. Houston Best Fit For Howard

Orlando 26-15, 20-10 in the conference (3rd). It is beyond stupid for the Magic to trade him now and throw this season away. The only hope is for Orlando to have a long playoff run which can persuade him to stay. If they trade him, think how many Magic fans will be pissed that they threw away the season. If Dwight leaves, blood is on the hands of Dwight, not the Magic. He said this after the Bull's game, "It's a great win for our team," Howard said. "We just have to continue to play this brand of basketball night-in and night-out, and we'll have a good chance of contending for a championship at the end of the season." Some writers create trade proposals to make a name of themselves and to sell, sometimes it work as it might get to Dwight's head, or Orlando management. If Dwight comes to the Rockets, I'd be buying tickets to his first home game as a Rocket, until then don't wake me up.
