That works.....when he bolts we will be in rebuild. Just don't take on too many bad contracts.

Depends what else they want, but I definitley wouldn't let that stand in the way of getting a deal done.

    How about....

    Lowry
    Morris
    Parsons
    Dalembert
    Thabeet
    Hill
    NYK 1st

    for

    Howard
    Nelson

    Dragic/Nelson
    Martin/Lee
    Budinger/Lee
    Scola/Patterson
    Howard/Patterson

As others have already said, I'd definitely trade Lowry for a Dwight rental. If he bails after the season, we are forced to rebuild. I know someone said it yesterday, but it would be devastating and somewhat hilarious if the Rockets gave up pieces of their core for Dwight, and Dwight left us to go back to a newly rebuilt Orlando squad.

Lowry for Pau - no. Trading young and climbing pg on a good contract for an old and declining pf with a climbing max is not smart for a rebuilding team.

Lowry for Howard - yes. There is hope that we can free up enough salary to sign DWill. The no-state income tax should soften the blow from the money lost if he were to resign with the Nets. However, if the DWill part fails, then we will most likely lose Howard and send us in a true rebuilding mode. I'd rather have DWill and Howard to rebuild with than having to rebuild from scratch but either way is better than rebuilding through 14th picks, 2nd round picks, 3rd tier FAs that no one else wants and the D-League.

Personally I'll be surprised if Orlando moves Howard. Unless you know for 100% sure that he's leaving (ie - he or his agent has made it clear that he will under no circumstances resign with the Magic), then I'd risk it and not trade him.

The no state income tax should never be mentioned in sports contracts ever again. It NEVER matters.

iPads never matter either. Get a new recruiting tool/pitch Daryl! No superstar cares about an iPad or you showing them an iPad with your nerdy stats! :p

You mean trading a flopping, whining, inconsistent PG for a consistent, skilled, PF? Pau is not declining in any major way.

Not sure I understand. DWill has to pay state income tax on every home game now vs he won't pay state income tax on any home game in TX (or any state that doesn't have a state income tax). Now you might argue that he'd make more money in endorsements but that's debatable. The state income tax is a fact.

It never matters to players. In every sport it gets used by Texas team fans and it literally never matters.

Maybe not a major way, but his max salary is climbing while his numbers are slightly falling. I would expect them to fall more given Dalembert vs Bynum and Martin vs Kobe. I'd trade for Pau if I was needed that last piece but I'd never trade young for old on a rebuilding team - especially when the young is currently your best player.

Do you really think putting Pau on this team after trading your best pieces is going to make us a contender?

Still don't see how it wouldn't matter if it came down to money which would be the only reason for him staying in NJ.

The state income tax is very much mitigated by the fact that the agents, not the players, are the ones driving the process most of the time and it's better for them to get the highest contract number and endorsement opportunities. The tax the player will be subjected to doesn't matter one bit to them, and players aren't that quick to override their agent in money matters. If the agent tells them the endorsements even things out, they'll play along.

Players that want to save will file taxes from a primary residence in Texas or Florida, regardless of where they play. As it is, half their gameday income will still be subjected to taxes in away games.

Ultimately, I do agree - it's a selling point, but a minor one.

Exactly. I don't mind giving up any players for Howard. Just don't take on bad contracts in the case if he leaves our hands be tied to rebuild.

Looks like Lowry would have to be part of the price. Orlando could get better deals if we were unwilling to part with Lowry.
