Nobody thinks the Texans are competing for a Superbowl this season. However, it's not far fetched for them to compete for a playoff spot, given their weak ass schedule. Vegas has the over/under at 8.5 wins...the 7th highest total in the AFC. Only New England, Denver, Indy, Baltimore, Cincy, and Pitt have better odds in the AFC to win the Superbowl. If Vegas has us as the 7th best team, then maybe the Texans can be somewhat competitive if things fall right. In 2015, the Texans will be contenders with all the cap money. And if Dre isnt here, that's a lot more money to bring in a replacement. Dre can miss out on a great 2015 season if he goes elsewhere.
I agree. It is a crappy situation though and his uneasiness is understandable. I would be curious to hear what his opinions would have been, behind closed doors, had the texans had got TB. At least he would offer somewhat of an optimistic outlook at the QB spot...at least more than it is now.
Didn't Andre say he wanted the Texans to trade back in the draft? He didn't sound too high on any QB. As far as being upset about the QB situation, didn't Andre feast and beast with Case under center? I think he's more upset about the possibility of a rebuild and continued losing, regardless of who is throwing the ball.
The Texans will compete for the wild card and then shock a lot of ppl. Call me a homer all you want but I see this team having a turnaround similar to the 49ers in Harbough's first year. Ryan FitzPatrick will play the roll of Alex Smith, our Kapernick isn't on the roster yet. Everybody needs to chill and trust the coaching staff. We're in better hands. I think everyone is approaching this as if Kubiak is still running the playbook. Endure the process
To me I feel this understanding of Schaub is not true. The players around Schaub simply carried him in 2012 in 2013 the players around Schaub just got tired and the league adapted to exposing the glaring weaknesses at the qb position and the predictable playcalling. Schaub once was a decent system qb but as a individual qb on his own he has always been trash and will always be trash. He simply needs to be surrounded by the best talent to look average.
This is so ridiculous. He was a lot better than "average" first of all, but on top of all that, the idea that he was bad but the players just carried him is flat out dumb.
He didn't put himself above the team. But you're saying Cushing _ someone who got busted for cheating is more of a class act than Dre which is freaking ridiculous. Cushing has hardly been on the field the past two seasons. Dre has meant more to this team and done more for this team than Cushing ever has.
He's still my favorite Texan ever (although Watt is quickly gaining on him) but that doesn't mean I think his needs should outweigh the team's needs. I agree with what the Texans are doing right now. Rebuilding through the draft instead of going for the quick-fix via free agency. I know that kind of leaves AJ out in the cold, but that's life in the NFL. Team > individual player (no matter who that individual player is)
I just watched the full interview and my conclusion is that this whole thing has gotten blown out of proportion. Draft is over, Rockets blew it. Need something to talk about. He clearly states that he hasn't asked to be traded and "it's nothing like that." He wants to win, he wants guaranteed money (extension). I don't think he meant it to become the distraction it has and I expect all of this nonsense to simmer down. Knock on wood.
Andre has certainly done more for the team than any other player. I don't think that can be debated. Whether he's more of a class act is certainly debatable. Schaub for example was an outstanding citizen and did a lot in the community. He was as classy as a player can be, especially when the city was done with him and dumping all over him. That doesn't mean he meant nearly as much as Andre has to the team or the city, but he was just as "classy."
You're talking about being a super bowl contender in 2015 and we don't even know who our quarterback is. Lol...
He said he hasn't asked to be traded but then he says later he'll have to decide whether he wants to be here. Sounds like he hasn't asked to be traded YET. He won't know until after he thinks over things for the remainder of the offseason and then meets with the coaching staff.
I agree.... The Texans success was because of Foster and the offensive line. Schaub was just along for the ride. Making it to the playoffs and winning a game with TJ proves your point.
And if it gets to that point ( I don't think it will), the Texans will make the decision to not accommodate his request. We move on. He'll be playing in Houston this season.
I'm not saying it was all Schaub's fault because Kubiak never gave him full authority to do all he needed to do to truly lead this team from a qb perspective. There is also a reason Kubiak didn't give him that... maybe Schaub is just that freaking limited. Maybe Schaub needed to be limited and controlled. You saw what happened last year not to mention all the picks he threw in the two playoff games before the 2013 collapse. Say what you want to say feel how you want to feel but Schaub was never the qb that was taking this team through the playoffs to the super bowl and deep down if Andre was honest with himself at a younger age he should have known that. We couldn't even get to the account championship game dude. Schaub was not that deep at all.
don't forget, they're talking about expanding the playoffs this year with an extra team per conference. so 4 division winners and 3 wildcards. with our schedule and division we can most definitely compete for that extra wildcard spot. nfl could vote next week on this.
What does Cushing being injured have to do with his loyalty to the team? And of course Dre has been more productive...who's saying otherwise? I think you're just rambling for the sake of having something to type bc you're making points that dont have to do with anything.
Adding 40 million in payroll to a team that can easily win 8-9 games...yeah, you can contend for a Super Bowl...you just need to make the playoffs to contend.
