Why are there protest marches on immigration if not to complain about their situations which include their inabilities to work, live, bank, invest, drive, and whatever else legally?

I think it's illogical to believe someone who comes here illegally to work and send money to relatives in another country will stop sending that money or not try to move that family to the US once they receive citizenship. So you either have the same situation in money leaving or a worse situation in more illegals moving here.

Any evidence of this because I don't think 15 billon or however much is sent is enough to build an economic infrastructure in a country as large and screwed up as Mexico. It certainly hasn't worked out that way. The only thing that has stopped illegal immigration is a faltering economy in the US.

we're all being railroaded, this is eerily similar to the way Obamacare got passed, kickbacks and 1000+ page bills crafted by a select few behind closed doors, released on a Friday and voted on a few days later in the dead of night

The reason why illegal immigration is such a big "problem" is that companies jump at the chance to hire them to save labor costs and keep prices low.

Without that, there would not be nearly as many immigrants because there would not be anywhere for them to work.

Sorry - I was referring to this board. You stated:

Don't break the law and then complain about what that entails for your lack of opportunities. That's absurd.

I assumed you were referring to people here complaining.

Why is it illogical? As an illegal immigrant, they have no reason to build roots here since they will never be allowed to build a foundation. As a citizen, they do. Why wouldn't they then spend their money building roots?

You don't think someone will buy a car or a house if given the chance? Or try to build savings if allowed to have a bank account? People are people, and ultimately, if given the same opportunities, will do the same as everyone else. As you said, these people protest their inability to do those things - why protest if they aren't going to do them anyway?

Again, I think a simple comparison of illegal immigrants to naturalized citizens (who also have family abroad) would be pretty instructive here. I know several naturalized citizens, and all try to live life like the rest of us.

Except, like the Obamacare bill, the whole bill has been out there for a long time. If people wanted to read it, they should have considered doing so before tonight. Then they would just need to read the amendments and vote on those.

The solution is simple, but it does require Congresspeople to be willing to do their jobs. Neither of these bills was hidden from anyone.

By a select few of bipartisan representatives with tons of amendments by the minority party.

Yes it's all so secretive and unfair.

It's illogical because the people that receive that money use it to live. They're not going to be any less dependent on it to live just because the person sending it is now a citizen. A lot of times the very reason for them being here illegally in the first place is so that they can support family members in another country. Citizenship doesn't change that dynamic. Those people still exist, still require the help.

The other effect of this is really a chained immigration Trojan horse. When you legalize 10 million people what do you think will be the first priority for many of them with respect to their families? Bringing them to the US, without a doubt. So it's not 10 million, its probably triple or quadruple that.

BTW, I don't think loans and bank accounts are the main impediment to home ownership for folks, illegal or not, that earn $8-12 an hour. Citizenship doesn't somehow increase your skillset or your resume. If these folks had an education and a higher skillset they wouldn't risk their lives to come here illegally to work low skill blue collar jobs.

Part of the problem is what happens when they get here. They come from a culture where corruption is rampant and everything is for sale. The people that carry them here use that knowledge to do things like sell them bogus Social Security numbers. They use those numbers to conduct their personal business. I have seen that in my bankruptcy practice. These numbers are used to do things like buy houses. All the while, the immigrant is unaware that this is not how Social Security documents are obtained here. It is exploitative.

If you don't want people rushing to contribute to feel like they can't, loosen the laws. Who cares about other nations? America is and always will be a nation of immigrants. And if doesn't heed that dynamic, it will fall on itself (as it already has begun with declining fertility rates, and pay-as-you-go systems that amount to fraud---and are basically being held up at this point by illegal immigrants).

The federal government actually allots the benefits illegal immigrants give as a part of the budget---so apparently they support fraud as (at the moment) one of the only means to prop up social security.

that speaks to a dying and older nation, to be quite frank, and if you want to keep it that way, let that be on your head.

A cynic would suggest legal immigrants pull benefits out of the system as well, so it's probably better to keep an indentured quasi-slave class to fund America---but I somehow see that deployed as an argument against amnesty by others, which to me seems to suggest that people don't know what is happening on the ground.

Again, why don't you see either of these things occurring with naturalized citizens, who are in the exact same boat having family abroad? The only difference is they went through the legal channel instead of the illegal one.

Or maybe they work low-skill blue collar jobs because those are the only ones available to them while illegal. I think the assumption that all illegal immigrants are uneducated and stupid is misguided. And, even if a home is out of reach, a nicer apartment isn't. And if allowed to drive and given the opportunity to buy a car, a low-end used car is an option. Americans and naturalized citizens who make $12 an hour spend money on these things - why wouldn't a formerly illegal naturalized citizen?

    Immigration is corporate welfare.

Using a blanket statement of demonizing political buzzwords doesn't make it true.

It is t corporate welfare in that one can assume that corporations will price goods and services commensurate with their costs, including the cost of labor. Once labor costs increase, they will adjust the price accordingly. Therefore, their profits are not affected by the lower labor costs.

This analysis would probably be different for scenarios in which the demand for a good or service is price elastic.

In that respect, one could say it's welfare for the 99%, since we get lower priced goods and services as a result.

Whether it is welfare or not is open to a semantic debate. I do think that those who want to close off the border are ignoring the inflationary effect of such a move.

    .

First the only difference you cite is quite a major distinction and second I don't think someone who goes through a naturalization process that in many cases I'm sure takes years is equivalent to someone just sneaking across to work and send money home.

I don't equate uneducated with stupid so I'm not saying that at all. I don't find it reasonable to believe a well educated highly skilled foreigner is going to risk his life crossing he order to live the life of an undocumented person working that kind of job. It might happen but I doubt that's anything near he norm.

That's not how it works. The amendments aren't appended. It's an entirely new amended bill. 1200 pages long released on a Friday afternoon, after which Reid shuts down the Senate for the weekend and schedules a vote for Monday.

    Really shameful stuff.
