This signing would have been great had Cleveland kept Lebron. Lowry would have played a similar role to what he did for us and shored up a major weakness for Cleveland. With Lebron gone they are taking a chance that he could grow into a different role. It's not a bad signing, but a much riskier one than had Lebron stayed.
Kyle Lowry is an asset that is irreplaceable on teams. I see him as i saw Sam Cassell in our championship days. A "pest" when he comes off the bench and and just cant be stopped when he drives in the lane unless you foul the little guy! I say "match it damn it"!!!!!
I suppose Morey has 10 days to find an alternative via a trade. I believe this will be his top priority as 5 + mil for a backup PG doesn't seem like a Morey move. But if he fails (doubtful), he'd likely have to match.
i dont get why the cavs want lowry in the first place... especially at that price. they really need a pg that can shoot with wade and lebron focus on penetrating... sigh... this is going to cost the rockets 1 way or another.
Yeah, but you would be forcing them deep into Luxury tax land, and while Morey and Les have said they will go there, the history suggests otherwise. DD
I don't know what in the hell your talking about with Wade/Lebron but I agree that it's weird the Cavs want to pay Lowry that money to be the backup behind Mo Williams. I thought that meant they were going to move Mo to the 2 but according to the sources, he is meant to be a backup.
whoa? sam cassel? hold on a sec there. sam was a unique talent. one of the better herky-jerky, stop/pop, mid-range gamers i've seen play (to be fair i've only been watching bball since 89). to have ice water flowing through the veins as he did as a rookie is rare.
One of us must be confused...what I was trying to say is a team like NJ should wait until Houston matched Lowry to make Luis a high offer. Obviously NJ wants Houston to double check their finances and let Luis walk. I don't want that to happen, but I'm sure the Nets will consider a similar strategy.
that would be a big mistake if we didn't match. whos gonna be playing PG when aaron is gonna be flamed to death about not being able to make post entry passes?
I agree with everything you said as well. It is a lot of money but the Rocket's are only two deep at that position. If there was a viable third PG on the roster then maybe the decision is a little less obvious. I also agree will the risk. However, I believe Kyle Lowry is a starting caliber point guard in the league although I also think Brooks has more value in that role currently. This is not a contract that cannot be moved. Also, I misspoke about trading Lowry at the deadline to Cleveland as someone else pointed out the restrictions which I had forgotten the specific rule. However, I doubt the Rocket's would want to trade their PGs this year anyway. Brooks contract is up in a year and they can use this year to make more long term and higher cost financial decisions next summer with Yao, Battier, and many other contracts coming up for renewal. Regardless, you match. No doubt about it.
That's Lowry's fair market value. He's been underrated for a while. Rockets should match, they are over the cap limit anyway, and there are no more PGs like Lowry available in FA. Give up Lowry means give up the season. One PG like AB won't cut it.
Don't know if it's been discussed, but does anyone know if there are certain incentives or a signing bonus that was not mentioned in the 4 year $24 mil terms everyone is throwing around: This i believe will make it much harder to match for the rockets if there is a signing bonus. With this and the obvious high money Scola offer sheet - Les will definitely be in luxery tax land this year. Morey's gonna be looking to shed some contracts at the trade deadline if we're not doing as well as he hopes. And we havn't even mentioned Brad Miller.... Clevelend isn't going anywhere - why are they trying to take our contending pieces
Did you even watch the Rockets last season? Do you recall what happened to the team while Lowry was playing and while he was out? He may be a backup PG but his impact is huge to this squad.
Lowry is not a "backup" center. He is good enough to play starting PG on many teams. It's always good to have a starting PG play as "backup PG" than to have a real backup level PG for an extra 2-3 mil.
Geez. Is this a conspiracy or what? Suddenly the tables are turned. Morey and the organization have usually been in the driver's seat. This puts the Rockets at a disadvantage. Lowry, no doubt, is being paid more like starter minutes from Cleveland. (Of course, that organization is now trying to recover some luster after James bolted.) And if they match, why shouldn't Scola expect a similar scenario. It'll be interesting to see what plan B, sub-paragraph 2 is.
if he was on half of all other other nba teams, he would not even be the backup. thats how good the rockets pg rotation is. either of them could easily be starting for any nba team
