The Rockets owed Rafer Alston $4.9 million in his last season. When you think about it, 1 more million for Lowry is not so bad. I want to see him get more minutes, and play Brooks at the two. Lowry better be ready to defend bigger shooting guards. Maybe he didn't like how we treated Landry, and I don't blame him if he were all about his money. It's a business in the end. Now I hate Udonis Haslem.
In Kyle Lowry's absence last season -- Rockets record: 4-8 Including losses to woeful teams like Detroit, Sacramento, Indiana, and a 33 point drubbing by Miami. This is essentially the stretch that put us out of the playoffs last year, IMO. Upon his return, we won four straight including one of our best win's of the season against Denver. One could argue that other than Yao, Kyle is our most valuable player. Instead of thinking of this contract as for a backup PG, I think it's reasonable to think of it as for a 6th man. For a good 6th man, that is a decent value. I think AB, Kyle, Martin, and Ariza will be great together. BTW, Cleveland Plain Dealer has reported the 3 yrs/17 million. I think he's just ready for a payday, wherever it may be, and hopefully a starting gig. Not being an elite player, he may not get many chances to land a nice long-term deal in free agency so he has to get what he can now. Not to mention he's a player that relies on athleticism so there is no telling what his game will be like after he peaks.
THIS... That's what I want to know... can we sign Lowry and trade him for one of their 17 backup point guards? I prefer to keep KLow, don't get me wrong. But if Morey decides that's too steep a price, can we get something for him rather than be left empty-handed?
If the reports are true, Lowry already signed the contract. Which mean our only option is to match or let him walk.
My understanding is that it's 3 years 17mil with a team option for a 4th year. We need to match. Kmart, Lowrey, and Brooks should be kept together. I think we need to find a solid backup SG (Taylor is not the answer), but I think Lowry is worth 5.8 mil a year to our team. He'll be hitting his best years under that contract.
One could arguee on a team limited already, missing lowry and ariza hurt the team. Why are posters leaving out that part?
I'm sure Morey has asked Kyle if he really wants to play in Cleveland. Kyle said he wanted a starting role on his twitter. I am sure he and his agent think the best financial move would be to go to the team that will give you the most minutes. If he wants to get a bigger contract when he is 27/28, Cleveland is probably the better move. Morey may want to match, but not if Kyle really wants to start in Cleveland. At the end of the day, it's Daryl's decision.
just look at this: would you rather have steve blake or kyle lowry? steve blake - 4million luke ridnour - 4 million chris duhon - 4 million so kyle lowry---------6 million is a bargain!!
As one who doesn't "buy" in to $Ball for basketbal, it's just what I would have expected. The other 29 teams are in a constant state of re-arming or re-building. If your entire focus is to avoid overspending, you will ALWAYS have to contend with 29 other evaluations of talent you've acquired. A cheap contract on a good player is only cheap for the length of the contract. Then, it's back into a normal (non-$Ball) marketplace.
