Really torn on this, was hoping for 4mil per, 6mil per is borderline, but Lowry has quickly become my fav. rocket. Is 24mil/4yrs good value? Would he be tradeable and considered an asset at that price the way Ariza is? If yes, I think it's a no brainer. If we need to shed salary in the future, just trade him away, or SnT him for something now.
I think we only have 2 choices, either Kyle or Scola, I really don't think we have the cap space to sign both 2.
It's a 3 year deal if you dont' count the team option. The price is a little high but the fact is that the Rockets will not be able to find a better PG who fits in the system on the market. So the Rockets have to match -- even if it's overpaying a bit.
Tough decision but in the end I think Morey doesn't match. Way too much money for a 6 ft. PG that can't shoot.
Backup PG getting paid more than the starting PG... Brutal. Agreed. Lowry is an important piece for us. There were too many instances where Lowry would bring us back to life when Brooks was in a rut. $6 mil... Think Jefferies but with much better production. Then again, Scola is going to get paid after this...
Since they are our own FA's we have the ability to go over the cap, luxury tax, and whatever else to resign them if we want to.
I don't see why Lowry getting 6 million would affect what Brooks gets next year. If Brooks is an RFA, then a team will sign him for whatever they think he's worth, and the Rockets will then of course have a chance to match. Lowry's contract will have little bearing on Brooks's contract potential.
As Kyle Lowry's biggest fan in this forum (ok, one of his biggest fans  ) ..... YOUR POSTING SKILLZSET AINT EVEN WORTH .02
I honestly don't think Morey sees Lowry at the backup forever. Brooks is going to be moved and if Lowry is signed, it's going to be obvious. The good news is that Brooks will make a great player to put in a trade to a team looking to dump salary. Lowry will be the starter on this team someday. With that said, I love Brooks (I love them both as players to be honest). If by singing Lowry that gives DM the flexibility to go after CP3 or Melo, then you have to do it. No question in my mind about that.
Just when I realized Battier, Jeffries, and Andersen will be off the books and the Rockets might actually have some cap space, I realize Brooks has to be re-signed. It's ok, the Rockets will be in luxury tax hell for one season, then they will be under it. Les better not back out. You got to pay to be a player.
What a sucky off season. A dynasty is made and the Rockets will either lose Lowry, and maybe Scola, or lose a lot of cap flexibility. The team option is a nice bonus.
Let's get it over with and bring Paul in already, throw in some first round draft picks to seal the deal. Let Scola walk and match Cavs's offer for Lowry. Sign Brad Miller. Hornets will have cap relief in 2011, all expiring contract next year (except Andersen). http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=22m6cvn PG: Paul/Lowry SG: Martin/Taylor SF: Ariza/Budinger/Harris PF: West/Patterson/Johnson C: Yao/Miller/Hayes Rockets vs. Heat:  PG: Paul vs. Chalmers SG: Martin vs. Wade SF: Ariza vs. Lebron PF: West vs. Bosh C: Yao vs. Big Z
Match please!!!!! This is the crazy money that I was afraid of from these limp and deflated teams!!!! Our second unit is our muscle and our advantage!!!
I think Morey's plan was to trade away Brooks + picks to Toronto in order to get Bosh, and resign Scola and Lowry, making the latter a starter. When Bosh didn't go our way, and Lebron joined him in Miami, this is where Morey's plan collapsed. Now he either has to sign our back-up point guard to a deal paying him more than AB is currently getting, antagonizing AB in the process as well as diminishing AB's trade value. OR cut Lowry loose, making our bench team weaker than it already is, losing a good defender, game changer, and one of the toughest guys on team, if not the toughest. Not an easy job being Daryl Morey.
What evidence do you have that Morey ever planned to trade Brooks for Bosh? It doesn't even make sense to sign Bosh, retain Scola, and ship off one of our point guards. We'd have something like six power forwards and one PG. I don't see why Brooks would be antagonized by Lowry making more money, by the way. He's a professional and he understands how the business works, that he will get his chance and probably be making more than Lowry in a year's time.
If you think this team isn't going to structure how it plays based around Yao's presence in the lineup, you're going to be very surprised when the season starts.
