Look, Morey has to match, because if he didn't ....whenever he tried this again teams would know he was bluffing. He HAS to match, IMO. And Luis is gonna be expensive too. DD
Back-up is unfair to Kyle, as you can almost say he's as important to the team as Brooks. Kyle's a legit starter in the league, and the Rox have been playing him like one. Personally I'd match it as on a talent standpoint Kyle's worth the 6M. After all Battier makes 7M and he's also a backup to Ariza.
Wish this was posted 5 hours ago! I was sitting a row below Morey at the game and we chatted. Also a big thank you to YoYo fr saving us seats for the sun game. I feel like looking for Morey in the lobby or the casino floor. I know the guys are staying here, played blackjack next to bud yesterday. Anyways did bring up Brad Mill to Morey today and he said they were just talking still and not close to being done. I did joke that the second best center in the NBA might be avail soon. He just smiled. He did mention that Pat was not doing good and that the team does not want him shooting the 3. Also I pretty much begged him to not like Ish Smith too much. Will Post more tomm. On my phone currently. Btw it's a tough call but I don't c DM not matching.
I'm not arguing that. I'm arguing against your logic of using Lowry's injury to show his worth. It's not about Lowry vs scrub D-league guy. It's about Lowry vs other players who can be obtained for 3yr/$17 mil or less. I mean, no one knew who Kyle Lowry was before he got him. So you never know if there's another one hidden out there either.
Not to mention we don't know the team's timeline with Llull......lots of factors to consider, but again, I believe Morey has to match or his words will not mean much to other GM's when he lays down the "I will match" edict. DD
That would be better than being fired. If Morey cannot land a star, Les wouldn't agree to pay lux tax...
Sign and trade Lowry to Cleveland, get a trade exemption, Then use that trade exemption to acquire Ramon Sessions.
Bima, can Lowry be sign and traded in a package involving more than 2 teams? Basically a three way trade involving Atlanta, Houston and Cleveland. Atlanta is interested in Mo Williams so we can arrange a deal with them. Houston recieves Josh Smith. Cleveland recieves Lowry Atlanta recieves Mo Williams Would you do it? Assuming Lowry hasn't signed an offer sheet yet.
http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2010/07/cleveland_cavaliers_sign_guard.html Looks like he will play back in Cleveland too.
Isn't this AB's contract year? Man, I could definitely see him putting up huge numbers this year, even with Yao coming back, and inflate his value, new CBA or not.
I think the problem is about AB (Aaron Brooks) He's due a big pay raise next year if he plays 80% of what he was last season. Let say his contract is going to average 10mil per year... That would be Tier 1 superstar money tied up on your PG slots alone... That wouldn't be a problem if it were CP3 but it's not.... AB + Lowry combined to make that much money ... I don't know...
That's not a good reason to match. Sure, it will help save face. This is a fair deal. Lowry is worth $6 million. A young, 24 or 25 year old PG back up PG should run around this much. Morey will match, bank it.
I say look at the market... Backup PGs have been paid upwards to 4 mil. Lowry is better than those guys. 24, getting better yearly and could start for a crapload of teams. Hell, Raymond Felton got 7, and I'm sorry but Lowry > Felton.
What I hate is I see so many guys taking less to sign with the Heat. I know it's not a common trend, but I wish Lowry was willing to take something like 4 years, $18.5 million.
