He just turned 24 and is the heart of the second unit. I recall a poster referring to the Lowry as the heart of the team.
You have to match. Lowry is too important. Unless you're convinced something better is on the horizon (CP3?) you must match. And NO Cleveland...we don't want Delonte West.
Al Harrington just got a 5yr 34m deal for a backup role(behind K-Mart). Now please tell me you think Lowry is worth more than Al Harrington... Please please please
I've said it all along. Morey is more then willing to trade Brooks than letting Lowry go. Morey has been on the Lowry bandwagon since he came into the league. Same with Kev-Mart. As a result, he eventually got his guys. The key here is, like with Landry (who's in the last year of his 3M per deal) Brooks is in the last year of his rookie deal. Morey is not willing to break the bank for these guys, as their contract is about to be up. How much you think Landry is gonna get on the open market? Brooks? 8-9-10M a year. Morey sees two steps ahead, and trades before the clock is up. He's not worried about trading a fan favorite (Landry) and if Morey matches, the writing is on the wall for Brooks.
It's a little higher than I would've thought, but not really considering the type of money that is getting thrown around at guys these days. I would definitely match it, Kyle is very underrated, his pace setting ability is incredible, he can turn a game around completely with his fast breaks and tough drives to the basket. He just always seems to make the right play, whether a nice pass or he'll go to the hoop for an and1. This guy's not 'just a backup', he plays a big role on the team and can play alongside Brooks on the floor at the same time.
Lowry vs Philly last year had lowry highlights all over... Anyone with a clip ? Even though we lost, he just has that extra umph that many players don't have.
Nope. Kevin Martin is our best player. A pre-injury & healthy Yao is obviously better than both Martin & AB.
i knew clutch was good for something around here do you do laundry or dishes? i need some help around the house since i am pulling a moestavern with my soon to be ex-girl.
except if the starter is on a late first round rookie contract...you'd almost be paying the back up the minimum to go lower than brooks' contract. i think we need to be more worried about scola's contract. Lowry at least has youth on his side, so morey will enter that into his equation, but not with scola...
No offense but Kevin Martin can not create his own shot, Lowry and Brooks are the only two players that can creat for themselves and others. Lowry is a better set up guy, but mostly in transition, and Brooks is a better shooter. IMO, we need them both, but if I have to pick one, it is clearly Brooks. Certainly not Brooks strong suite..... DD
Do we have to match signing bonuses as well? Seems like teams do that to frontload and make it more painful to match. In my head you match this without question. We saw last year with injuries how important quality PGs are.
The whole point here is that we can match the offer. BUT I won't suggest doing it. Come on SIX million..
Thanks for the poll Clutch.....and this is alot of money for a back-up PG. But Kyle is more than just a reserve 1. He is a starter caliber player who can also defend the two. He is a great point guard.....and his only on-the court issue I can see is the range on his shot. He's a good character guy. I say match it. However, like others have mentioned...I wonder how Brooks would feel about having the guy behind him make so much more. But then again, Kyle was already making more than Brooks. In any event...it should be fun seeing what Brooks commands on the open market when his contract is up. Back to Kyle......I say match it.....and I think Morey will (not only b/c its a good basketball move, but b/c that is what his Boss wants )
I would retain him to keep the flexibility of moving Brooks in a trade deadline deal for Melo or CP3.
