Ok . . someone explain to me . . what exactly has JVG accomplished that Mike Brown has not? They both got to the finals. They both lost in the finals. If you wanna talk about him taking an 8th seed. It helped mightily that his ALL STAR CENTER came back to the team right before the playoffs. Making them more talented than most of the other teams they faced that year. I don't care much for mike brown but . . . accomplishment for accomplishment he and JVG are about neck and neck Neither is overly imaginative on offense Rocket River
Ridiculous that they would think of firing Brown. You may not think he deserved it but he won COY. The Cavs had the best record in the league and destroyed the Pistons and Atlanta in the playoffs and came up a bit short of going to the finals. He should be lauded for taking that team as far as they went, the Cavs are a team of one star and a bunch of role players.
I think Mike Brown's weakness is sort of like JVG. JVG ran very limited offensive sets that put so much pressure on Yao and T-Mac to create that sometimes I think it may have taken healthy years off their careers. I think all the pressure Lebron has to deal with, I'm sure it'll take its toll on him shorter than he would like in his career because of this.
oh, he does. and the mediocre one's didn't step up either. still, per my post before, he did a really bad job IMO. "It's obviously not working, but let's keep doing the exact same thing"
Maybe they should quit blaming the coach and get a low post offensive threat. Ben Wallace/Varajao/Big Z are all garbage...should have traded for Shaq while they could.
JVG would love to coach that team with some minor roster changes. I blame the front office they wanted shaq and phoenix wanted wally and some fillers and the front office didnt not want to part with wally's expiring or thought it was worth more. HELLO! You have the MVP you need to make moves like that for a team near the top esp when there are all sorts of rumors of LeBron leaving in 2010. What did Wally do in the playoffs this year? That was by far the biggest mistake the Front office has made. Mike Brown isnt a good coach, he isnt a terrible coach he is just slightly above average I think like Avery Johnson
Mike Brown and the Cavaliers' fate was sealed the day they traded for Ben Wallace. Then decided to give Z a 10 per year deal. Thats 24 mil for two role players on the decline. Besides Lebron, the Cavs have nothing but garbage on the team and have made no real moves to surround him with talent. Boozer left with nothing in return. Mo Williams is an undersized combo guard with no PG skills. A smart GM would have gutted the roster right before Lebron's contract extension 2 years ago and signed some quality players to build around your superstar. Brown gets the blame for assembling this defense oriented team minus any real offesive other than James. Sorry but history is against defensive minded coaches like Brown and JVG. Even the hated Lakers understand this concept when they went out robbed Gasol away from Memphis. Don't tell me Cavs couldn't have offered something better than Kwame and some garbage picks?
Below average players can put up decent stats on crappy teams. Delonte West should be the 10th player on any rotation. Would I be against getting Mo Williams on the Rockets? Maybe no. Would I be excited about getting him? Yeah right.
Coaches are stubborn. We saw it w/Phil Jackson against the Rockets (sticking with Fisher forever, etc.). Rudy was stubborn. I'm sure there are tons more of examples. I think they just like to stick w/the tried and true. It doesn't mean they should be fired (I know you didn't say he should be).
It is not about Brown being an above average coach, which he apparently is. It is all about making Lebron happy so he won't bolt next year. JVG >> Brown and he'd love to coach Bron. I think JVG is waiting for this kind of opportunity.
that blows my mind that people would vote him COY knowing this... i forget which game it was in the eastern conf finals, but when cle took a timeout with only a few seconds left in a tie game and i saw mike brown on the outside looking in to the huddle with one of the assistant coaches drawing up the play i thought to myself "you HAVE to be ****ting me" if you're not even in the huddle in crunch time in the CONFERENCE FINALS you are NOT a coach
That wouldn't surprise me...he never came across like he knew what he was doing...just give lebron the ball and hoped everything worked out...having said that, i bet lebron's input would be used...
Brown coached the Cavs exceedingly well in the 2008 playoffs, where Lebron struggled and yet Cleveland almost beat Boston. This year, the Magic were a matchup nightmare at the backcourt positions, and I'm not sure coaching is the reason that Delonte West was the only role player who showed up to the series. In 2007 and 2008, the Cavs roster was underrated; this year, it was overrated beyond belief.
Except that's the point - those guys put up those same stats on both good and bad teams. It probably signals that that's who they are.
The Cavs were exposed for having a bunch of crap players around LeBron but I did think Brown got badly outcoached in the ECF. The way he would play one reserve player one game, then not play him for a few games, and then come back with him again. He was reaching for answers. Sasha was definitely the guy that belonged on the floor because of Orlando's size but he didn't get the PT.
Wasn't LBJ supposed to make them better instead of stunt? I mean, every one not named LBJ was forced to be a spot up shooter, how about let Mo create some offense? He had at least 2 more assists per game in Bucks, it's not like he doesn't have that ability at all. LBJ is obsessed with his stats I am afraid. Unfortunately it's not how many assists LBJ get, it's how many assists the team gets that proves the success of offense.
I don't watch many non-Rockets games, but that was disturbing when I saw it. I'm not saying others don't do it, but if I'm COY, I own that team and I run that offense. I may get others to help design it or coach it, but on the court - I run it.
