You took the words right out of my mouth. According to RealGM, they signed Varejao for 8 years/$42 million. Wow, what in the hell was Ferry thinking? He overpaid big time. They also signed former Raptors SG Anthony Parker for 2 years/$6 million. They acquired Shaq via trade with PHX.

6 years, $50M is too much for a skill-less hustle player like Varejao.

They have Varejao's Bird rights so they can sign him to as much as they want up to the max. They signed Anthony Parker with part of their MLE. They traded matching contracts (Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic) for Shaq.

I don't think an 8 year contract is allowed. The reported contract is 6 years $50 million, which is even more ridiculous.

    Yup.

The Cavs are obviously just desperate at this point.

Funny thing is, with Sideshow Bob's new contract, and next year's projected salary cap drop, the Cavs I'm pretty sure just took themselves out of the running for the ability to add a decent FA.

Varejo needed to stay with the Cavs. He is a player that needs a superstar to make him great. He feeds of the double team of LBJ or just makes his living on put backs. Good for the Cavs and Great for Varejao.
